Shannon - GlassMistress

I’m a procrastinator, a sewist, a dabbler, a reader, a baker, an over planner, a mama to many furry kids and I regularly play with fire.
We have an older gentleman who stops by for a part or service on a household mixer about once a year. Today he needs something I can only find on ebay. I ordered it and will not mark the item up when I sell it to him. He will bring me homemade pierogi ... all will be good!
MAN and I have started watching Black Sails. In last night's credits there was an actor who played the part 'hand job pirate' ... this killed me!
I suppose that its wrong that a friend posted on FB that her son is student of the week in his class at school and I immediately wondered who she bribed?
I was feeling froggy this weekend ;-)
I wish you could smell this! Spicy short ribs with orange and basil.
If you are in the business I am for long enough you get a little immune to most commercial kitchens and the level of gross they are able to achieve. This one however sets off my gross meter big time. We removed the shelf of a commercial microwave today to clean and reseal the shelf ... this is what we found under it! It is so 'cooked' that the...
.. tech working on the unit is hammering it out of there! The silver bar in the middle is supposed to go round and round ... I don't think so! Ugh! - Shannon - GlassMistress
I hope your toaster isn't an inch deep in crud! - Shannon - GlassMistress
On the phone to the city about the sewer install. Me: Is there an approx. date for notification that we can commence with connection? City: Does it look done? Me: Yes. City: Well it should be anytime. #headdesk
Oh sorry .. Jennica and Laura wanted wombats. Sorry but the bat insisted on photo bombing ;-)
So cute, Shannon! - Jenica
Adorable. - Tamara J. B.
It is possible I need one of these. Bwhahahaha!
Brontospoon - Isola Virtuale
thx - мик
Chopped, home edition. Leftover steak seasoned with chili powder, cumin and garlic, a package of Spanish rice, half a jar of salsa, left over beef broth, a can of corn, and tortillas. Yum!
Holy moly ... I just blew up the bead auction room on FB with a flying fox bat bead. I had no idea bats were so popular :-)

When it looks that amazing you bet it would. - Micah
Busted my bum last night at the party. Nearly everyone there remarked on what a great job I was doing, at least three folks want to hire me when they have their next party (mostly joking I think), one inebriated fellow wanted to divorce his wife and take me home, and the hostess was so happy she doubled her offer...$200!
Told the drunk dude I don't clean my own house and I darn sure wasn't going to clean his (we were joking...he was funny) - Shannon - GlassMistress
just for future reference: I met with an event guy to scope out options for work. He's a brand new official self-proprietor so I thought establishing a relationship could mean work for him and a price break for us since he's starting out. Day-of on-site management = $250. Prep in planning and day-of coordination = $500 w/ half upfront. And I will gladly pay it for an event that needs to go off without a hitch. Wish I had it for the big to-do coming up this week. - t-ra: sentimental gorgon
I was more of a bus-boy, tray runner combo. I cooked rice, and pulled things from the stove and oven on time but did no prep. I assembled a few trays - cheese and veggie, and kept the platters full. Washed a ton of coffee mugs as the hostess wanted to serve chowder in her mug collection ... 10 mugs for 60 folks, lol. All in all it was 5 hours of my time and I was offered all the food and drink I wanted (too busy to partake) and she sent me home with cake...win win ;-) - Shannon - GlassMistress
Ahhhh the possibilities of a clean work bench!
Three flying fox bats. - Shannon - GlassMistress
WOMBATS - Jenica
Delivered a part to a customer on my time after work because I knew he really needed it (cheese shredder to a pizza place) he responded by giving me a free pizza. Boom!
I had no idea you kept pizza places in operating order. I love your work. - SAM
If they serve or sell food we keep 'em in business :-) - Shannon - GlassMistress
And they keep us in business. We try to be very mindful of that. - Shannon - GlassMistress
Good morning FFfolks! My weekend will include glass work, laundry, cleaning, serving at a party, and maybe the Ren Faire ... how about yours?
Going to try to list more stuff on ebay. Fix the bikes and hopefully clean up my potting station. - Anika
So I've been told (MAN is a champion napper) but unless I'm sick I just cant pull it off. If I do manage to fall asleep I sleep too hard and never quite wake up. - Shannon - GlassMistress
AC in my car is officially dead. The evaporator coil is kaput. Good news, the part is only about $300 bucks. Bad news, it is so buried in the dash board that the labor to replace it is about $1000 bucks. I better get torchin' SUMMER IS COMING ;-)
The evaporator coil in my car was busted when I bought it used. Fixed it for roughly the same price as you, and then my compressor went. :( - Colette
The Ren themed birthday party photo's are starting to hit FB ... dang it, someone got me! :-)
Ok, the numbers are in. I fed over 100 folks for $444.46 ... I say not bad, not bad at all. :-)
Holy crap I'm tired, but happy. Food was good and well received. I was a bit more 'employee' than I expected and didn't get to see the ceremony for my favorite boy becomming an Eagle Scout but there is video so all is well. Bonus, the kitchen I was in was nice. Had a warming cabinet..perfect! I could have done all the cooking this week there!
The dogs let us sleep until almost 8am ... BOOM! (ya think I should go buy a lottery ticket today?)
Go for it. - Starmama
Lots of latecomers to the party last night and we ran out of food. They got a little terse with me especially those with kids. Who shows up at a party at 10pm with hungry kids?
Also, there were far more than the 46 that RSVP'd - Shannon - GlassMistress
Gits,that's who - Pete's Got To Go
I prefer the term "jackasses" myself. - That's So CAJ!
I was a little gobsmacked. One guy, with a hopefull hand on a foil covered pan I had just wrapped asked if there were any turkey legs left. "No, sorry, that -the pan- is just bread". He rips the foil off, mumbles something and wanders off while I repack the bread... Wha? - Shannon - GlassMistress
Whoa boy...seems our LP Gas License is expiring. Boss is the certified license holder. He wants me to take over that spot. I wonder if I remember how to study?
Hmm. I might have to rethink what I post on FB. One of the glass girls wants to know what I'm doing next Saturday, seems she needs someone to help with a party - keep the platters full and the counters clean. I'm not actually complaining she's paying $100, its a 3hr gig and hey, she's a fun person. It will probably be a fun thing to do :-)
MAN and I take turns driving when we go to parties. It'd be nice to 'get out buzz on' together but it just isn't prudent. Tonight's party would have been his turn but he has to work tomorrow ... so sad #bigshiteatinggrin
Whew! Thank goodness most Ren costumes are laced. I ripped out the side seams of the jacket, pounded in some rivets and voila! a couple extra inches and a more comfy fit. Now, on to the next crisis, lol.
I often get a little pissy b/c the rest of the work force here stands in the warehouse smoking and chatting the first hour and a half of the day while I work and answer the phone. Today I'm sitting at my desk altering a Ren costume while they smoke ... I'm not so pissy :-)
HELP! I picked up the smoked turkey legs today and to my surprise they are frozen solid. I know they won't thaw in the fridge in the 24 hours that I have until the party. Do you think if I packed them in a cooler and put them in the garage over night (50s tonight) they'd be ok and speed up the thaw?
They're smoked so I'd think they would be fine. Don't know if it would or wouldn't help speed up the thawing, tho. - Starmama
I am not sure about the coolers, but can put them in plastic (sealed) and into warm water that you change out as it cools. Coolers might be good for that, if it is easy to empty the water. - Jennifer Dittrich
Excellent point Jennifer! I'm on it, thanks! - Shannon - GlassMistress
I need a RenFaire costume by tomorrow night ... suggestions?
Potato sack - Johnny
Last week when the catering bomb dropped I asked the hostess if it was a costume party. Her response "it could be". Tonight she sent out a missive that costumes are expected, the party is Friday night. Sigh.
Seems to me that if I jogged to the bathroom, did jumping jacks during commercials, and squats while on hold I'd be in pretty good shape.
It sounds like you need the Law & Order Couch Potato Workout http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2003-10... - bentley
Tonight dinner was not very New Year's friendly...hash browns, sausage and a fried egg..unless you count that I used what we had on hand :-)
Decisions, decisions. I went to the quilt shop and it will take about $80 to quilt the top in an all over pattern (one thread color) and 2-3 times that for custom work. I can quilt it, but that is so not my forte. It seems I've hamstrung myself a bit by using so many colors and white. Harumph!
Why not just have them do it in white thread? - LB ❤s FF, esp. YOU
Bright purple. I think there are color changing threads, too, so you could do it in something that won't match but won't be static. http://www.superiorthreads.com/product... - Spidra Webster
