"Bitch, stop taking the glaze."
Most of my kitchen stuff is ready to be boxed up.
Fiestaware? - Zamms
I misread that as you had most of your kitchen STAFF ready to be boxed. - Greg GuitarBuster
Watching a little baseball.
making a little glove... - Pete's Got To Go
We're big fans of Romo out here. He's a great player, and he's a fan favorite. - Brian Johns
Where to Eat on 14th Street: 7 Places We Love in Washington, DC - http://www.seriouseats.com/2013...
"If you've been paying attention to the food scene in the District this year, you'll have noticed a trend: Week after week of restaurant openings on 14th St. have flooded one of DC's already busiest corridors with even more options for diners." - Derrick
I've only eaten (and drank) at the ChurchKey, but I can tell you it rocks. Definitely check it out. Deep fried mac & cheese! - Christa
Sometimes I cry when I think about the good fortune that's happened to me. I work hard and I feel things deeply, probably sometimes to a fault. So, maybe the hard work is part of it, but fortune and luck are certainly the case when it comes to the friends I've made over the last few years. Anyway, now is one of those times, cause I'm kinda crying.
aw, hon. *hugs* - RepoRat
;-) - YvonneM
Anne and Jason are lovely and I'm so happy I got to spend some time with them this morning over coffee.
It was a nice respite from me being move-crazy. Going to *try* to see if I can see Laura B. at some point too, but time is tight. :( - Derrick
I love them. - Mary Carmen
Cleaning out the freezer and refrigerator today. Hope I don't discover any...surprises. o_O
Arabi is on the other side of the Lower 9th and was REALLY hit hard by Katrina and there was some major flooding. That's all I really know about the area. And that St. Bernard can have some uh, tense race relations (although that's true of the entire state). O_o - Derrick
I did find a hambone from honeybaked that I wish I knew was in there; that would've made for an awesome pot of beans. - Derrick
I just got my electricity bill. Welp, at least I wasn't hot.
Well, it should be your last crazy summer bill, right? - Katy S
Yeah, they actually gave it to me over the phone when I called to disconnect service. - Derrick
Moving day is Friday? - Julian
Yep. - Derrick
Avocados: The World's Most Perfect Food? - http://health.yahoo.net/experts...
"Guacamole lovers rejoice: not only do avocados protect vision, reduced heart attack risk, and potentially ward off cancer, but they can also slim your waist and keep extra pounds off, according to surprising new research. In fact, this nutrient-packed green superfruit has such an amazing bounty of health benefits that it’s been called “the world’s most perfect food.” Here’s a look at why avocados—not just apples—might just be your best bet for keeping the doctor away." - Derrick
This article is wrong, anyway. Vegemite on toast is the world's most perfect food. - Melly #FForever
Is anyone watching "Broadchurch" on BBC America? Kind of like "The Killing" I guess if I had to describe it. I'm only two episodes in but I'm really liking it so far. And it features David Tennant for all of you Doctor Who folk.
Helen really liked it. I thought Tennant did a very good job. Good acting all round in fairness, good writing, well-paced. Will watched it when it was originally broadcast :) - Pete's Got To Go
And there are my comparisons to "The Killing" which I watched up to a point (maybe a little more than halfway?) and it was just SO bleak and SO dire and dreary and rainy and tough and intense. I will say that I like the writing, the performances and that, despite it's plot and content, is more accessible for me as a viewer. - Derrick
Dang.
Oh my. - Zamms
I'm already conducting crucial culinary research. - Derrick
And now I want crab cakes.
I'm moving in with Derrick ASAP. Just putting that out there now. - Hookuh Tinypants
I realize how business works, but the landlord having people come to the house as potential tenants when all I really want to do is pack up and go, is frustrating and annoying. Ain't nobody got time for that. And who wants to see a house full of boxes and in complete disarray?
Turns out potential tenants are nice and they get that I'm in the middle of all this upheaval, but it just throws a monkey wrench into the middle of your plans. - Derrick
AND NOW THIS MAN HAS FLAKED. Because of course his friends are in a blues band and just happened to show up from Mississippi. Of course. That is SO New Orleans. Hell, bring them by too. I've got plenty beer. - Derrick
I smell like Comet and the non-profit group I'm donating my car to are picking it up on Friday. *twitch*
"I smell like Comet and the non-profit group I'm donating my car to." HAHAHA. I had to read it twice. - Trish R
haha, I see you, Trish. *scrubs* - Derrick
It's all good, some people reek of pure profit. - Micah
Lord have mercy, I think I've figured out DC's quadrants.
Start at the Capitol, the mall is a dividing line as are variations of Capitol St. - Derrick
I think a neat vacation would be to take couple weeks off in the summer and do a road trip of baseball games and stadiums. I always like seeing how cities are represented via their enthusiasm for their baseball teams. Plus I'd love seeing a lot of these great parks in person.
next summer you should visit Camden Yards, one of the most beautiful parks out there. - Sir Shuping is just sir
We have a faculty member who does that every summer. I'm not sure how many parks he's been to. - LB ❤s FF
Brunch.
I want to go there. - Jenny H.
My brunch companion also ordered bacon so they brought both orders out on the one dish and I swear it looked like half a damn pig. It was kind of glorious. The waffle's no joke either. - Derrick
Just tipsy enough to see how this awful Tom Cruise movie ends. -hiccup-
It's SO beautiful. Very striking cinematography, production design, etc., but the story's a bit thin. Oh well. I didn't hate it, but it wasn't very good. - Derrick
I think it's worth seeing, but you'll likely notice it's a little derivative, but stunning in the pretty. - Derrick
"Comfort me with a Blueberry Tart. So much fresh flavor with the pie crust, pastry cream, and fresh blueberries." - Derrick
Found one I like from Cook's Illustrated! *\o/* - Derrick
My mom used to work with (and I went through all four years of high school with the son of) currently troubled San Diego mayor Bob Filner. #SaturdayFF
Did he ever put her in a headlock? - Brian Johns
Seeing as how he's still alive, no. - Derrick
What was his son like? - Stephen Mack
He was cool. Nice guy, was into sports and played a lot of water polo, swimming, skateboarding, went to the beach. Typical SD dude. I looked at his FB page recently and it seems to not have any of that drama from his dad attached to it, so that's good. - Derrick
Given everything I've done today, what's left is a nap and determining the proper ratio of lemonade to iced tea for the perfect Arnold Palmer.
Lord have mercy this nap. It was like the Wikipedia entry of naps, but only because it started to rain as I was falling asleep. And three hours long! Also, 65/35 lemonade to tea. Roughly. - Derrick
Apparently you do it ice tea, then lemonade, then more ice tea. https://www.youtube.com/watch... - Brian Johns
"These little hand pies are filled with a really nice fall apple-sausage-mushroom and (of course) butternut squash and sage center. The crust is super flaky and made with butter, leaf lard, and sharp cheddar. I got the idea for these pies after tasting a really delicious sage and sausage apple pie at the Enid’s Apple Pie Bake-Off. I love me some savory and I love me some pie. I was inspired by the cute lil shape of these savory hand pies and I figured I’d get to baking!" - Derrick
Oh. Oh. Oh. - Jenny H.
I've been up doing so much stuff this morning that I already decided I'll be ordering pizza for dinner.
You say that like it's a bad thing. :) - That's So CAJ!
I'll be happy once this is all over for sure. - Derrick
Of the books that I elected to keep, the bulk are cookbooks, art books, and male nudes (although I guess those could also be considered art books).
"art" - DJF
haha, when I was in film school I did A LOT of research on military/uniform fetish and Tom of Finland because I wanted to do an adaptation of a short story by Tennessee Williams titled, "One Arm" about a sailor who boxes in the Navy in San Diego and loses his arm in a car crash and becomes a hustler. Lots of homoeroticism there, obviously. But yeah. Research and art. - Derrick
PSA Announcement: If you are doing laundry and cleaning up your kitchen and packing and doing all that of which precludes a move, Juvenile's "Back That Thang Up" is an excellent accompanying musical selection. Also? Crank that ish up.
CALL ME BIG DADDY WHEN YOU BACK THAT THANG UP / GIRL, WHO IS YOU PLAYING WITH, BACK THAT THANG UP. - Derrick
haha, it's already begun. Neighbors needed relish, ketchup, and mustard for the kid's hot dogs and burgers and also some cornmeal cause they're frying up some oysters. I handed it off, and they're tailgating on the sidewalk for the Saints game with a plate to be delivered to me in an hour or so. :) - Derrick
I planned to do some more cleaning, set aside some books, and maybe do some laundry as I keep working on moving. Well, yeah. I *planned* to do that anyway. :|
It's not like I still can't, but I was aiming to start like...three hours ago. *yawns* - Derrick
It's fun! And keeping me from working. At least for now. ONE more episode... - Derrick
Maybe I wouldn't keep waking up at 3am if I didn't go to bed at (*yawns*) 9pm. Zzzzz...
Probably my last spumoni cheesecake from Brocato's. :(
:( - Anne Bouey
you cant order it and have it shipped? WTF? - ♫Maurice the Dolphin♫
Moving is bullshit.
Yep. - vicster.
For real, tho! - t-ra is ugly crying
I probably stopped watching baseball regularly right around the time interleague play began so as I've resumed watching it's still kinda like LOLWUT, THE PADRES ARE PLAYING THE ORIOLES? *twitch*
Donated quite a few books to two local public libraries systems today. Six big boxes worth, including a lot of graphic novels (which were highlighted on their want list on the website). I hope they get some use out of them, or that they can sell them via their Library Friends programs.
New Orleans Public requested the graphic novels and I had tons. Jefferson Parish Library was where I did 95% of my library school homework and had the most amazing resources that surpassed even many academic libraries in the area. Donating felt really good, given what they've both given to me. - Derrick
Very good of you, fine sir. - Katy S
If you talk to Missy Abbott at NOLA Public, she is an old friend of mine. - Jason P
I ended up texting a classmate; quite of few of them work for NOPL now. But soon there will be Rachel! - Derrick
6 Pies We Love in Austin | Serious Eats: Sweets - http://sweets.seriouseats.com/2013...

I feel like I need to confront, attempt, and master piemaking. - Derrick
I do love banana cream, chocolate cream, and coconut cream pies...hrm. - Derrick
All of the above. (Plus, for me, custard cream and key lime.) - Akiva
How to Buy, Store, and Cook Tomatoes, In Season in August - http://www.bonappetit.com/blogsan...
"Grab them while you can, douse them in olive oil and sea salt (or slather them in mayo and throw them on toast), and sink your teeth into this refreshing, ephemeral fruit." - Derrick
Ah, roasting, secret knowledge. Thanks. - Todd Hoff
