"Grab them while you can, douse them in olive oil and sea salt (or slather them in mayo and throw them on toast), and sink your teeth into this refreshing, ephemeral fruit." - Derrick

Thanks for posting this! Mine are just starting to ripen. - Katy S
Maybe next summer I can do some container gardening. No time for it this year. Hrm. - Derrick
i am thinking about trying a cherry tomato in my little raised garden next year, which is funny, because i've always been NO TOMATOES in my gardening. - holly #ravingfangirl
Tomatoes are what I grow the most of. I don't grow many other things (aside from herbs). - Katy S
I forced myself to eat them because raw ones make me twitch a little bit (cooked are fine), but then I had some from a farm(er's market?) or a neighbor rather than a store and the difference in taste was night and day. - Derrick
Have you read Tomatoland? It discusses some of the ways supermarket tomatoes have had the flavor bred out of them. I'm not fond of the ones at the grocery. I'll admit a bit of snobbery here. - Katy S
I have not, I had to settle for tasting. :) - Derrick
Well, tasting is best. :) It was interesting, though, in terms of the economics of food and food distribution systems. - Katy S
Speaking of tomatoes, anyone have good simple salsa recipe? I was thinking why buy salsa when we can make our own, but I've never done it before. - Todd Hoff
Todd, this is one I make regularly. Roasting the tomatoes really brings out their flavor: http://www.seriouseats.com/recipes... - Derrick
Ah, roasting, secret knowledge. Thanks. - Todd Hoff
