One of the papers in Daisy & Violet's post-op instructions says to keep the cones on their heads for 10 days. Another paper says 14. So, I'll be setting the dogs free from their cones on Friday, which'll be 12 days post-op.

A week on, and Violet & Daisy are finally acting normal under their E-collar cones. Took Daisy longer, she was so distressed. Po babies have never even had a flea bite before, the itching & not being able to scratch was tortuous :-(

Jayden is a very young 16 10/12 year old. Since preschool he's been in special ed schools & classes. Many of his classes have been all boys, and he's never had a girl his age as a play cousin or friend. He was friendly w a few neighbor girls, over the years, but they quickly passed him up in their maturity so he didn't spend much time with them.

I have applications in with two agencies that provide help with move in deposits. If I'm approved, I have to provide a signed lease & they write a check to the landlord or property management company. Problem is, both have backlogged applications & limited funds, so I don't know if there'll be help when I need it. *crosses fingers*

I was much more concerned about SARS and h1n1 (which actually put my kid in the ICU) than I am about ebola. And it's possible there are no longer any cases of ebola in the US. I hope folx are done panicking now.

Now that the owner is selling this property, I will have to deal with prospective buyers coming into our flat & I do not have the right to refuse them as long as I'm given notice. The landlord or realtor must accompany them, but still. Don't want strangers walking thru my place! Hopefully there won't be much interest in the property before we move.

Almost the only places that accept dogs & section 8 are large complexes often replacing post-war public housing, in not-great neighborhoods that are becoming gentrified. I've pretty much given up on finding a house or duplex so I'm mostly focused on these large developments.

How does one live around hundreds of people & get peace? Music, voices, kids, cars, that's a lotta stuff going on outside your windows & on the other side of your walls. - Starmama

One of the greatest tips I can give to anyone packing for a move: Wrap your breakables in the fabrics things you own. It's faster packing than using newspaper, takes up less space overall, and your stuff won't be all dirty when you unpack. Example: Wrapping dishes & nicknacks in towels, curtains, & t-shirts. ;) - April Russo (FForever!)

This morning I looked at a shabby 4plex near my current neighborhood. Only the outside. The grounds are pretty filthy, there are kids toys outside the 3 occupied units, and this tells me the current tenants probably aren't great neighbors.

Then I checked out a 100+ unit complex in West Oakland that's new & clean. A uniformed woman was cleaning up the sidewalk outside & I stopped to talk with her, ask her her impression of the property & neighbors. - Starmama

Left a msg at the leasing office for the W Oakland one. I haven't lived in anything larger than a 4plex since the 80s. But I've also never lived anywhere newer than a maybe 30 year old building. These are less than 8 years old, and supposedly built green. - Starmama
