It's like a party that everyone went to, and most people left by midnight, but a few people were partying all night, and the party hosts just didn't want to kick everyone out.

IVANPAH!!! I was just driving along and saw it.
This is INSANE! The light reflecting off the solar mirrors is so bright that you can see it going through the air before it hits the central tower. - Amit Patel

Where do you find these things?! - Anne Bouey
Anne: hee hee — I was exploring Las Vegas, and I don't particularly gamble, so I just figured I'd walk around and see random things. This is a store called Stupidiocracy in the New York New York casino. Most of the stores have upscale boring products but this store was interesting so I took some photos :) - Amit Patel
Haha, what an appropriate name! - Anne Bouey
Another Las Vegas observation: they had video poker and blackjack when I last went, but now they have video craps, roulette, blackjack "tables" where everyone stares at their own screen while playing in a shared game.
Is this a way to keep dealer wages down? Or is it a "gateway drug" for getting introverts to start playing table games? - Amit Patel
On the way back from Zion and Bryce I stopped in Las Vegas. I hadn't been there in over ten years. Observation: lots of branded slot machines now!
Also: slot machines with arcade-racing-game-like seating, including surround speakers and seat motion. - Amit Patel
Also: nobody kicked me out for taking photos. If MGM comes through and issues a DMCA takedown for these photos, you'll know why FriendFeed went down. - Amit Patel
Bejeweled (it's not just a slot machine, but an actual Bejeweled game that you have to pay money to pay each time!), Jetsons, Elton John, Superman (1970s movie), Michael Jackson (what is he going to say about it?), The Walking Dead, KISS, Avatar, Mad Men, Oompa Loopma / Willy Wonka. - Amit Patel
I also saw Ellen Degeneres, Lord of the Rings, Titanic, Ghostbusters, Wizard of Oz, Jurassic Park, and many others. - Amit Patel

No idea why some of the photos aren't oriented correctly, but these are from my cell phone, as FF will disappear before I get photos off my main camera. - Amit Patel

Imprinting Soils - Creating Instant Edge for Large Scale Revegetation of Barren Lands - The Permaculture Research Institute - http://permaculturenews.org/2012...
"Imprinting is a method for instantly adding what permaculturists call the ‘edge effect’ to soils, utilising a heavy and dimpled/wedged roller to ‘imprint’ soils with patterned depressions. The bottom of these depressions then become collection points for all the crucial elements needed for seed germination and soil building: seeds themselves, water, organic matter (including plant debris and animal manure) and wind-blown silt and clay particles." - Amit Patel
"Instead of rain running off the land, taking precious organic matter and soil particles along with it, an imprinted surface soaks and sinks the water instead. The lucky seed that finds itself at the bottom of one of these dimples also gets shaded from the harsh sun during the early morning and late afternoon parts of the day." - Amit Patel
Google Reader Rises From The Grave With New (Material) Update v2.0 [APK Download] - http://www.androidpolice.com/2015...
"In 2013, Google announced the death of its RSS reading platform Google Reader. At the time, Google cited declining usage as the official reason for Reader's closure, wrapping it up along with things like Cloud Connect, Voice for Blackberry, and Building Maker as part of a second round of "spring cleaning." It comes as a huge surprise then to see the app back in the Play Store almost two years later with a new icon and brand new interface, jumping from version 1.1.8 up to 2.0." - Amit Patel

"Almost exactly 25 years ago, on January 28, 1986, Space Shuttle Challenger disintegrated seconds after lift-off. One of Edward Tufte’s most famous examples of bad charts are the ones used by engineers who argued against the launch, and who failed to convince. It’s a fascinating story, but it has one major fault: it is not true." - Amit Patel

Blobs in Games: Hex grids: choosing data structures and generating algorithms - http://simblob.blogspot.com/2015...
"In the last blog post I described the project I've been working on: generating hex grid code libraries, for lots of different types of hex grids. I wanted to transform "proto-algorithms" into algorithms for a specific type of hex grid, and then convert the algorithm into code.. That was the pattern I initially expected to follow, so I'd end up with maybe 50 algorithms multiplied by 70 grid types multiplied by 20 languages, or a total of 70,000 code snippets." - Amit Patel
I won't have this project finished before FF disappears. - Amit Patel
KXTV/KOVR tower - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki...
"The KXTV/KOVR tower is a guyed communication tower in Walnut Grove, California, United States that rises to 2,049 feet (624.5 m) in height. Built in 2000, it is the tallest structure in California, the third tallest guyed mast in the world (as of 2001), and the sixth tallest structure to have ever existed if the destroyed Warsaw radio mast, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, and the Tokyo Sky Tree in Tokyo are included." - Amit Patel
Blobs in Games: Hex grids: procedurally generating code - http://simblob.blogspot.com/2015...
I've been working on a project to generate hex grid code libraries. I want you to be able to say "I use an even-r offset grid with inverted y axis, and I need C# code" and it should generate the appropriate algorithms, then give you C# code to implement them. - Amit Patel
