"How much would you spend for a good night's sleep? Some people might say $33,000. That's the price of E.S. Kluft & Co.'s hand-tufted, king-size Palais Royale mattress and box spring, currently the most expensive American-made mattress set on the market. The company says it has sold about 100 since introducing it in 2008."

"The antigravity module, referencing the XKCD comic mentioning Python, was added to Python 3 by Skip Montanaro. You can read more about it here, one of the first spottings that I know of: http://sciyoshi.com/blog...). But it really originated in Google App Engine! It was a last-minute addition when we launched App Engine on April 7, 2008. A few weeks before launch, when most code was already frozen, the App Engine team at Google decided we wanted an easter egg. After a great many suggestions, some too complex, some too obscure, some too risky, we chose the "antigravity" module. The App Engine version is a little more elaborate than the Python 3 version: it defines a fly() function while can randomly do one of two things: with a probability of 10%, it redirects to the XKCD comic; otherwise, it simply renders the text of the comic in HTML (with a link to the comic on the last line)."

"One of the most vexing aspects of traveling between mainland China and Hong Kong is the car travel: People in the former drive on the right side of the road; people in the latter drive on the left (a vestige of the British empire). So to quell confusion at the border and, more importantly, to keep cars from smashing into each other, the Dutch firm NL Architects proposed a brilliant, simple solution, the Flipper bridge."

But what flips the mind of drivers unprepared to drive on the flipped side?

Hey that is really clever!! smart idea... but John does raise a good point! LOL

"A banana equivalent dose is a concept occasionally used by nuclear proponents[1][2] to place in scale the dangers of radiation by comparing exposures to the radiation generated by a common banana. Many foods are naturally radioactive, and bananas are particularly so, due to the radioactive potassium-40 they contain. The banana equivalent dose is the radiation exposure received from that of eating a single banana. Radiation leaks from nuclear plants are often measured in extraordinarily small units (the picocurie, a millionth of a millionth of a curie, is typical). By comparing the exposure from these events to a banana equivalent dose, a more realistic assessment of the actual risk can sometimes be obtained."

The more I use it the more I love it. The main compartment can swallow a D700 with 50mm 1.4, 16-35mm, and 70-300mm VR (with any of those mounted to the body). But because there isn't much padding and it's mostly canvas it still looks small. If I only bring 2 lenses I can lay the camera down flat. Some lenses won't fit in the main compartment pockets with a hood on. The 16-35mm has this issue but the 50mm and 70-300mm don't. There is plenty of space in the side pockets for hoods.

"“I want my future husband to be diligent about money,” a 27-year-old woman says in an ad being run in free magazines promoting a fixed-rate, three-year note that Japan started selling last week. “Playboys are no good.” She’s one of five women featured in the page, which says “Men who hold JGBs are popular with women!!” The ministry commissioned the ads to appeal to citizens for money at a time when record government borrowing threatens to outstrip demand."

When Blizzard launches the Real ID system (http://us.battle.net/realid...) what size social graph will they suddenly have? Starcraft I is still huge, WoW has 11.5 million subscriptions, and new games are just on the horizon (Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3).
Congrats DeWitt and the rest of the Buzz team! It looks clean and well designed. I also see some stuff here that was part of the FriendFeed API and now the new Facebook Graph API (e.g., the convenient use of "me" to reference the currently authenticated user without needing to remember the user ID)

How do you get around not being able to make HTTP DELETE and PUT calls in all environments (especially JavaScript)? Is there a way to override the HTTP method via a request parameter?
- Benjamin Golub
Thanks, Ben! We do have a way of exposing both HTTP verbs and custom verbs via alternative mechanisms, though we didn't document it for this launch. I'm not exactly sure why not, but I'll find out.

United refuses to refund my canceled ticket from the volcano incident. Instead they offered a E-Certificate worth not nearly the amount of the canceled flight. The E-Certificate offer and customer service say there is no way to directly contact the refund department.
I understand that the volcano cost airlines a lot of money. But passing the debt on to the customers isn't right. Customers on European airlines have been treated nicer. There is a law stating that the airlines must refund them and take care of any expenses (hotel / food).
