Old man, who was probably shrooming, terrorizes NYC subway with dildo - http://www.deathandtaxesmag.com/243803...
"Finally, he developed a more advanced protocol to maximize the delight inflicted on each new wave of incoming train friends: Every time the train pulled into a station, he’d put the dildo away, sit quietly, let people board, then whip it out and wave it around, startling the new passengers. “It honestly doesn’t look like any dildo I’ve ever seen,” noted Animal’s house sex toy expert. Spooky." - rønin

Cape Coral man faces prison for beating gator - http://www.news-press.com/story...
"The wildlife officer said it is rare in Florida to see a crime like this one. "This is kind of a first," he said. "Every once in a while you get people feeding the gators ... or poaching. But not for killing them for no reason." He said pretty much everyone, including tourists, seems to know that killing or harming a gator is against the law." - rønin

CA Court: Yoga Doesn't Violate Religious Freedom - http://jezebel.com/ca-cour...
Oh FFS. "California parents Stephen and Jennifer Sedlock were upset that the Encinitas Union school district offered yoga to good Christian children. The idea that the their two children would have to perform Hindu rituals and bow down to the sun (or something) led the Sedlocks to sue the school district, claiming that the optional yoga classes infringed on their religious practice by promoting Hinduism. The Sedlocks lost their original lawsuit and yesterday a San Diego appeal court confirmed the ruling." - rønin
Watch a Price Is Right Model Slowly Die Inside After Ruining the Show - http://jezebel.com/watch-a...
"Listen, it must be tough to be one of these models, always having to keep your composure as increasingly desperate people try to grab onto money that they believe is rightfully theirs. Model Manuela Arbelaez reached her breaking point today when the hot lights of the studio and the relentless screaming of the death mobs that make up the show’s audience finally got to her. She revealed the correct price before the game was over. AND THEN THE LIGHT WENT OUT FROM BEHIND HER EYES. You can literally see her dying as she claps her hand over her mouth in horror and then shrinks away, probably worried that she is going to lose her job." - rønin

Japan's Lonely Death squads who empty homes of elderly people who die alone | Daily Mail Online - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news...
"In March, the body of an elderly man was found on the floor of this apartment in downtown Tokyo. He had been dead for a month. When Masuda's team turns up at the Tokyo apartment, police have taken away the corpse but body fluids have seeped into the floor. Flies buzz around a cooker filled with rice. Old calendars and papers are strewn in rooms untouched for years. Workers wearing protective gear spray the apartment with insect repellent, using gloved hands to pack the trash in boxes. The six-hour exercise is conducted discreetly to avoid upsetting the neighbours. The crew tells onlookers they are moving house. When they are done, incense and flowers are placed where the body was, with the man's photo put where his head had been." - rønin

Thanks. I still think it's a weird choice. I'd never heard of him until he started doing some guest segments on The Daily Show... Of course, Corben was a weird choice for LLS, too. Interesting that in both cases they looked overseas... - Spidra Webster
Going Clear Is a Jaw-Dropping Exposé -- Vulture - http://www.vulture.com/2015...
"The cult is right to be scared. Going Clear is spectacular stuff. Literally. Scientology thrives on spectacle, and one big advantage the film has over the book is that it can show us footage of Scientology’s big “events,” which look like Nazi rallies crossed with Hollywood awards shows. It can also show us video footage of the church’s leaders dissembling and evading when confronted by reporters. Seeing is disbelieving: Watching this stuff, instead of merely reading about it, somehow makes Scientology both more ridiculous and more chilling." - rønin
Rehabilitated Otter Released Back Into Food Chain | The Onion - America's Finest News Source - http://www.theonion.com/article...
"“It’s always sad to say goodbye to an animal we’ve spent so much time caring for, but that’s ultimately why we’re here—to give these creatures a second chance at briefly occupying a middle rung in a progression of consumption where they serve as a primary food source for a higher organism.” At press time, a crowd of onlookers was waving to the otter as it swam off into the migration routes of sea lions, orca whales, and several species of shark." - rønin
Scientists Discover A New Form Of Ice — It's Square : The Two-Way : NPR - http://www.npr.org/blogs...
"Scientists recently observed a form of ice that's never been seen before, after sandwiching water between two layers of an unusual two-dimensional material called graphene. It's the latest surprise from the lab of a guy who is perhaps best-known for levitating a frog in a magnetic field, even though it's his groundbreaking work with graphene that won him a Nobel Prize." - rønin
The Best of Haruki Murakami’s Advice Column -- Vulture - http://www.vulture.com/2015...
"Celebrated novelist Haruki Murakami is a master of the heartbreaking and the surreal. So who better to start an online advice column? In January, the Japanese author began soliciting and responding to reader-submitted questions. Murakami's website is in Japanese, but we translated some of the best back-and-forths. It's weird — and weirdly charming — stuff." - rønin
First question from a lady having issues w/coworker. Asked how he would write the life of such a person in one of his books. "I have a similar experience as you. It’s such a pain to work with someone like that. Waking up every day with that in mind is terrible. You lose faith in humanity. I understand where you’re coming from. People like that are not uncommon and surprisingly well liked. How would his life be if he/she were in my novel, you ask? Skinned alive with a knife, of course … just kidding." - rønin

Does HaHa actually sound like this when he sings? I haven't looked up any of his songs but his regular voice is a lot raspier than this I think. - rønin
The raspy voice is part of his act. I think Infinity Challenge is probably one his few shows where he uses his real voice, which is rather deep. In the Infinity Challenge Music Festival shows...I think from 2011, 10cm worked with him on his singing voice. - Anika
Man, these robocalls are getting way outta hand. The one today said that I had a pending lawsuit w/a soon to be issued arrest warrant and that I would be arrested if I didn't call back within an hour. I just had to laugh at the ridiculousness of it all.

This Cooking Trick Cuts Rice Calories in Half | TIME - http://time.com/3754097...
"A cup of white rice has about 200 calories—not insignificant considering it’s most often used as a small part of a larger dish. But there’s an easy, natural way to make rice less caloric: add a little fat, then let it cool. According to research presented at the American Chemical Society’s national meeting, using coconut oil and a refrigerator can slash calories by as much as 60%." - rønin
"Researchers from the College of Chemical Sciences in Sri Lanka wanted to figure out if they could convert some of rice’s digestible starch into the non-digestible type, and thereby make it less caloric. By testing out 38 different kinds of rice and simulating human digestion in a test tube, they devised a recipe for the least caloric way to cook rice: drop a teaspoon of coconut oil into boiling water, then add half a cup of non-fortified white rice and cook it for about 40 minutes. After cooking, stick it in the fridge for 12 hours." - Steve C, Team Marina
I'm a little less excited now that they made cooking rice into a 2 day affair. - Steve C, Team Marina
An Explorer's Lessons On Happiness, Photography, And Greeting Whales - http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015...
""People joke that I went straight from the ocean into the air and skipped land," Eric Cheng says. But the joke isn't totally accurate. Land is where Cheng obtained his two computer science degrees at Stanford, and where he trained as a concert cellist. It's where he developed a passion for pursuits that are creative and also highly technical. After that, it's true, Cheng did start spending a lot of time with sharks and whales. He left an unfulfilling startup job, taught himself the complex workings of underwater photography, and improvised a career around his expertise. He led expeditions to a drool-worthy list of tropical locales, his photos won awards, and he built one of the web's largest underwater photography communities. Nowadays, however, Cheng is flying high (and dry). He oversees the Silicon Valley presence of the world's largest maker of civilian drones, a company called DJI. If drones have a face in the United States, it is arguably Eric's." - rønin
I've followed Eric online ever since he was a nascent underwater photographer and I greatly admire his ability to transition practically seamlessly into whatever he sets his mind on doing in his life. - rønin

Kavalan Solist Vinho Barrique took the title at last night’s ceremony which also saw awards go to whiskies from Scotland, Japan, Ireland, France, Sweden, South Africa, Australia and the US. Kavalan Solist Vinho Barrique, at 57.5% ABV, is produced by the King Car distillery in Taiwan by maturing the malt whisky in American oak barrels that previously held white and red wines." - rønin

Meet the orphaned lamb who’s hoofing it around NYC | New York Post - http://nypost.com/2015...
Hilarious, although I suppose it makes sense, that they wash him w/Woolite. "“A lot of people think he’s a goat,” says Cher, originally from the suburbs of Philadelphia. “Two people have even asked if he’s a kangaroo. New Yorkers aren’t familiar with animals.” As if on cue, a woman walks by them. “Oh my God,” she exclaims to a friend beside her. “Did you see that llama?”" - rønin
