They may hold us up temporarily, but sooner or later we're going to topple over. We need a third leg -- a third metric for defining success -- to truly thrive. That third metric, she writes in Thrive, includes our well-being, our ability to draw on our intuition and inner wisdom, our sense of wonder, and our capacity for compassion and giving. As Arianna points out, our eulogies celebrate our lives very differently from the way society defines success. They don't commemorate our long hours in the office, our promotions, or our sterling PowerPoint presentations as we relentlessly raced to climb up the career ladder. They are not about our resumes -- they are about cherished memories, shared adventures, small kindnesses and acts of generosity, lifelong passions, and the things that made us laugh. Cayuse people - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki...
pstp anthro pnw "The Cayuse Indians were located in the Columbia Basin and were nomadic, even moving day by day. They lived in teepees, which many nomadic tribes used. Cayuse women would have to assemble and disassemble the teepees, either of which process could take an hour. The Cayuse were skilled horsemen, and used horses for catching animals and for their trip over the Rocky Mountains each year to bring a supply of buffalo back to their women and children. They hunted game, fished salmon, picked berries and dug roots. The women would use the animal skins for food, shelter and clothing. The men considered bravery to be an important quality, with brave warriors being held in high esteem. The strongest would be made chief. The Cayuse experienced great difficulties as white settlers moved in in large numbers following the opening of the Oregon Trail in 1842, and the discovery of gold in California after 1848 and then in Eastern Oregon in 1862." ( 12 -2 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki... ) Like the Plains tribes, the Cayuse placed a high premium on warfare and were skilled horsemen, often using their horse-riding prowess to intimidate other tribes. Skilled horsemanship proved beneficial to the Indians and the neighboring cowboys who adopted the Cayuse pony. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki... - Thomas Page

pstp food crop Popcorn or 'popping corn' is corn (maize) which expands from the kernel and puffs up when heated. Corn is able to pop because, like sorghum, quinoa and millet, its kernels have a hard moisture-sealed hull and a dense starchy filling. This allows pressure to build inside the kernel until an explosive "pop" results As the oil and the water are heated past the boiling point, they turn the moisture in the kernel, which has a moisture-proof hull, into a superheated pressurized steam. Under these conditions, the starch inside the kernel gelatinizes, softens and becomes pliable. The pressure continues to increase until the breaking point of the hull is reached: a pressure of about 135 psi (930 kPa)[4] and a temperature of 180 °C (356 °F). The hull ruptures rapidly, causing a sudden drop in pressure inside the kernel and a corresponding rapid expansion of the steam, which expands the starch and proteins of the endosperm into airy foam. As the foam rapidly cools, the starch and protein polymers set into the familiar crispy puff.[4] - Thomas Page

"The East India Company traded mainly in cotton, silk, indigo dye, saltpetre, tea, and opium. The Company also came to rule large areas of India, exercising military power and assuming administrative functions, to the exclusion, gradually, of its commercial pursuits; it effectively functioned as a {[{ megacorporation }]}. Company rule in India, which effectively began in 1757 after the Battle of Plassey, lasted until 1858, when, following the events of the Indian Rebellion of 1857, and under the Government of India Act 1858, the British Crown assumed direct administration of India in the new British Raj. The Company itself was finally dissolved on 1 January 1874, as a result of the East India Stock Dividend Redemption Act." - Thomas Page

Civics - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki...
"Civics is the study of rights and duties of citizenship. In other words, it is the study of government with attention to the role of citizens ― as opposed to external factors ― in the operation and oversight of government. Within a given political or ethical tradition, civics refers to educating the citizens. The history of civics dates back to the earliest theories of civics by Confucius in ancient China and Plato in ancient Greece. These traditions in general have led to modern distinctions between the West and the East, and two very different concepts of right and justice and ethics in public life." 4 -2 tangent - Alphabet effect http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki... http://www.cwrl.utexas.edu/~faigle... , 1 -20 -13 http://www.nytimes.com/2000... 5 -13 http://news.virginia.edu/content... 7 -14 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki... - Thomas Page
3 -22 Low information rationality http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki... is a social theory that states that people are information consumers with limited benefits and time for processing and understanding information. Due to the limited benefits and time individuals have for learning new information, individuals use various shortcuts and heuristics to understand information quicker. Simply put, it does not make sense for the average individual to develop in depth understandings of most issues. The theory is often used to explain the limited understanding of politics and scientific technologies by the general public. - Thomas Page

pstp energy emtech A plant producing electricity, heat and cold is sometimes called trigeneration[7] or more generally polygeneration plant. Cogeneration is a thermodynamically efficient use of fuel. In separate production of electricity, some energy must be rejected as waste heat, but in cogeneration this thermal energy is put to good use. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki... , http://www.rural-energy.eu/en_GB... , http://www.globalmicroturbine.com/Site... , http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki... , Nuclear Power plants can be fitted with steam drains after the high, mid, and/or low pressure turbines to provide heat to a heat system. With a heat system temperature of 95°C it is possible to extract about 10 MW heat for every MW electricity lost. With a temperature of 130°C the gain is slightly smaller, about 7 MW for every MWe lost.[9] History of Heat utilization? 10 -21 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki... - Thomas Page
