Running - it's the one thing in the world I absolutely hated to do. I only ever ran while playing soccer. I hated running that didn't involve a soccer ball. And then one day I decided I needed to just get the fuck over it, and I wanted to step up my fitness game. So I started running. I don't hate it anymore, though there are days I'm less keen on it than others. :) - Hookuh Tinypants

Favorite city...hm...that's a tough one. Lemme ponder that for a minute. EDIT: I think it's a tie between Sacramento and Austin. I know it's not cool to like Sac but I have always enjoyed its vibe. Austin is just like the hippest place on the planet and while it can sometimes seem too hip for its own good, I like that it's a place where folks can find their niche. Ask me again in a year after I've visited NYC though. That may trump all. :) - Hookuh Tinypants
I'm already working on lining myself up for a PhD, but we'll see if I ever follow through with it. It would serve little purpose beyond professional vanity, but I do like an academic challenge. And I do love school. But I think maybe going for another bachelor or masters degree might be a better use of my energy. I want to get more focused on forest ecology or water resources. - Hookuh Tinypants

Best fuel for a big race? I love a couple of things - a PB&J made with two whole-grain waffles, almond or natural PB, and strawberry jam. Or if I can't finagle that, then I do hard-boiled eggs, pretzels, and an apple. :) - Hookuh Tinypants
Top 3 Running Shoes. Heh. Well...part of it is solely based on best fit for your gait and whatnot. But there are some clear winners in my mind. 1. Brooks 2. Saucony 3. Newtons. The Lady Newtons in particular are phenomenal shoes, though the downside with Newtons is they're made for forefoot strikers and not enough runners are already forefoot strikers and require shoes that correct that for them. Brooks and Saucony are just fantastic and offer good shoes for all strikes and gaits. - Hookuh Tinypants
If you want specific models? I wear Brooks Adrenaline 16's for road, Brooks Cascadia 8's for trail, and in the past I've worn Saucony Hurricanes. I want Lady Newtons so badly but the toe box is just a smidge too narrow for my foot (I'm a D width) - Hookuh Tinypants

The only thing that saved us was my mom desperately clinging to a rock with one hand while holding both me and my brother by our sleeves with the other. Biggest race pet peeve - lack of basic runner etiquette. This includes slow runners and walkers staying to the right, walkers and runners not stacking 3-4-5 people abreast, people starting in the correct corral for their pace, people checking that they're not stepping in front of faster runners or walkers before they make a sudden movement across a path, taking more food/drink than one person should reasonably be able to consume at any given water stop or finish line, etc. - Hookuh Tinypants
