Some pics from our 2011 season opener Saturday: our two intraleague teams duked it out. My team won, below are some action shots. I left everything on the track, including 2 lungs and my lymph system...
And yes, that is me hitting the jammer in pic 2. Can't see my head thanks to the shoulder hitting my face. - FFing Enigma
That's so awesome - Rodfather
...I recently saw an Ellen Page movie on cable called "Whip It," about roller-derby girls, she was underage and instead of being in beauty pageants like her mom wanted, she snuck out at nights to do the derby. did you see it FF? and if so, was it an accurate portrayal of the life? - .LAG liked that
I've never seen roller derby in person. I'm missing a lot. - AJ Batac
I ask you, what is there not to love here? - MoTO Boychick Devil
I did see it LAG (we did an event at the theater when it came out). I wouldn't say it's necessarily accurate, but the whole "finding a new place to call home" aspect is pretty true to life for just about every skater that joins. Right now we have 50 women (OMG!) from 18 to 52 and while they all get something different out of it they all also get a huge new family right when they walk in. I LOVE my derby family =D - FFing Enigma
Also, for those that have never seen it live: GO. Tickets are usually 10-15 and bouts last 1.5-2 hours depending on halftime, timeouts, etc. Almost all derby teams are skater owned and operated local businesses or even charities, so you'll be buying local and supporting your community in the process. - FFing Enigma
Tina... that's great to hear! - .LAG liked that
