I came to FriendFeed in early-to-mid 2008 (I have the exact date written down at home) after following a guy I had crushed on for years from Pownce to here - he gushed about how FF was literally the best social network he'd seen and I needed to get on it with him. He eventually left to go be on Plurk and I stayed here.

You made the right choice. ;)

The first new person I really hit it off with here was Derrick. Many others followed in a short time, but you never forget your first. :P In the beginning I didn't know what to say natively so my feed was a flurry of aggregated services - I linked up every single thing I could find. And I commented heavily on my posts to explain things about them or about myself. That's how I connected with Derrick - he saw a YouTube post I'd commented on and we got in a discussion about it. <3

Over the years it was uphills and downhills. I will say without reservation that the Anonymous account was the worst thing ever created here. People used it for very cruel intentions, and I found myself on the receiving end multiple times, the worst being after I'd set my feed to private and someone who was friended to me betrayed that privacy and attacked me via the Anonymous account. I did a mass unfriending of most people and left FF for five months. I'm glad I came back, but honestly I haven't trusted FF since. Not like I used to.

But along the way, many good people put themselves in my way and I'm grateful to have connected with you all and built the relationships we have. Which I find amazing considering what a jerk I can be some days. I am blunt and I don't always speak in the kindest manner, but to some folks our connections were important enough to sort me out and find a way to love me anyway. Goddamn you people and your bizarre unconditional love.
- Hookuh Tinypants
Some would argue that if it's not unconditional, it's really not "love." Either way, you make it easy.

So thank you, FriendFeed, for being the most glorious bastard of a socnet that ever lived. I'm grateful for your existence and the people you brought with you, but I look forward to the catharsis of this place going "poof" and the exploration of a next chapter in our social network journey opening up.

I remember when that shit was going down and it made no sense to me at all. Still doesn't. I am glad you came back to sass it up and keep us on our toes. Let's not wait too long before another IRL meeting, okay?
- Corinne L
Hell yes! I actually will have time this summer to be a part of things (the only thing in the way is Saturday morning long runs for NYC training, but aside from that? HELL YES.)
- Hookuh Tinypants
Amanda, Corrine, where are you? Northern CA, yes? I would LOVE to meet you both. (I'm in San Francisco.)
- felicious
Also, Amanda, Derrick is one of my close friends. I'm glad you two connected, and I'm glad you stayed.
- felicious
I keep starting to type stuff and then stopping... so I'll just drop a <3 here and leave it at that.
- That one guy. Bren.
I'm in Sacramento and Amanda's in Vacaville - and Anne Bouey is in Napa. Then there's all the other SF/SV FFers... ETA: and the East Bay FFers who I ADORE.

Hell, I should just rent a van and drive it from here to SF, picking y'all up along the way, for a big blowout party by the bay.
- Corinne L
I hope you know I adore you, my name-sister, because even when others might see you as abrasive, I just see your truth. You're fierce and fabulous and I'm HELLA glad you stuck it out here with us <3

It's funny that Plurk is going to outlast Friendfeed. I thought it would shut down first.
- Morton Fox
Hookuh, I have mad love for you. I'm sorry that trust betrayal happened. (I had a secret shared in confidence here leak out once too, and it really shook me.) Thank you for everything.
- Stephen Mack
It's straight up bizarre that Plurk is going to outlast Friendfeed. Not that it's not good but it never seemed like a network that was going to go anywhere. I had an account there for a hot minute and it was like...eh.
- Hookuh Tinypants
I so agree. I was too open in the beginning as well, and that trust was betrayed. I deleted my account and came back, but it was never the same. I still feel a bond with all the people I met here. I decided not to let what happened sour me on everyone here. There's some really great people here, as you obviously know.

We should have a big BBQ over at our place this summer. We can introduce the baby to the crazy.
- Mary Carmen
That is a splendid idea. SPLENDID. Count me in. :D
- Hookuh Tinypants
Trish R - Absolutely. I'd be lying if I said I didn't invite some of what went down, but some of it was just straight up Mean Girls shit and that's the stuff I had to escape. Once I returned and culled the herd, it was a different experience altogether. Too many groovy folks here to not give it a second shot. :)

Buuuumpity.
