Stop it, George Lucas. Just stop it. - Brian Chang
I think I might possibly be the only human being on the face of the planet (other than Lucas himself) who likes the Special Editions better than the originals, but even I don't want this stuff going 3D. - Brian Chang

PSA: Sony says counterfeit PS3 controllers could explode -- Engadget - http://www.engadget.com/2010...
"We're not sure why anyone would buy a knock-off DualShock 3 or SIXAXIS gamepad, considering the trouble Sony's taken to make sure they don't work, but the PlayStation 3 manufacturer has another reason you might want to steer clear of counterfeit pads -- they could be tiny Li-ion bombs poised to explode. Talk about force feedback!" - Brian Chang

Titanic sunk by steering mistake, author says - Yahoo! News - http://news.yahoo.com/s...
"Patten, who made the revelations to coincide with the publication of her new novel "Good as Gold" into which her account of events are woven, said that the conversion from sail ships to steam meant there were two different steering systems. Crucially, one system meant turning the wheel one way and the other in completely the opposite direction. Once the mistake had been made, Patten added, "they only had four minutes to change course and by the time (first officer William) Murdoch spotted Hitchins' mistake and then tried to rectify it, it was too late."" - Brian Chang
Patten's grandfather was not on watch at the time of the collision, but he was present at a final meeting of the ship's officers before the Titanic went down. There he heard not only about the fatal mistake but also the fact that J. Bruce Ismay, chairman of Titanic's owner the White Star Line persuaded the captain to continue sailing, sinking the ship hours faster than would otherwise have happened. "If Titanic had stood still, she would have survived at least until the rescue ship came and no one need have died," Patten said. - Brian Chang

Want a Date? NYC Women Seduced by Scent of Coffee - Local News - New York, NY - News - msnbc.com - http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id...
"Women in New York really get off on the aroma of coffee, according to a survey commissioned by AXE men's grooming products, and considering New York is the nation's top city for singles, gentlemen should use that to their advantage. Contrast that with findings from, say, Los Angeles, where women dig a whiff of lavender. In Dallas, women go gaga for the smell of smoke (from campfires and grills, not cigarettes) and in Philadelphia, it’s the smell of clean laundry that gets the juices flowing, the survey found. Overall, the scent of vanilla captivates women across the nation." - Brian Chang

NYC storm leaves 14-mile path of destruction - Yahoo! News - http://news.yahoo.com/s...
Yikes. "The National Weather Service sought Friday to determine whether the fury of wind and rain that tore through New York City was a tornado — a storm that toppled trees, peeled away roofs and killed a woman in a car who had just swapped seats with her husband." - Brian Chang

Lady, my car was neck and neck with yours in the lane next to yours. If you'd even bothered to move an eyeball before beginning to change lanes (or during!), you would've realized that we cannot occupy the same physical space at the same time. Instead, you injected a much unwanted dose of sheer incompetence into my morning. Thanks.
If you had gotten in a crash, while the fault would have been hers, the fact that you could have avoided the crash by not driving alongside the other car cannot be dismissed as a point of failure. Protect yourself before someone else wrecks yourself. - Scoble, Alex Scoble
I guess my post made it sound like I was just sitting alongside her cruising at the same speed the whole time. It wasn't so much that as it was that I was in my lane going with the flow of traffic when she pulled up alongside in the adjoining lane (which was otherwise pretty empty) and decided to merge at the point in time when we happened to be neck and neck. A couple of seconds earlier or later and it would've been some other car that she nearly wrecked. - Brian Chang
Boise goes from darlings to damned - College Football - Rivals.com - http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa...
"So yes, Boise State has found itself facing a dream scenario. With 21 of 22 starters returning from a 13-0 team, it has a schedule the other national contenders would kill to face. They won’t have to deal with the mental and physical grind of a big conference schedule. They won’t have to play week after week in hostile, 80,000-seat stadiums. They won’t have to dodge as many bullets. That’s the BCS though. It isn’t smart, sensible or fair. Just like Boise State has been saying all along." - Brian Chang
Golfer's swing sparks 25-acre California blaze - Devil Ball Golf - Golf  - Yahoo! Sports - http://sports.yahoo.com/golf...
"Over the weekend, a golfer's routine swing in the rough at the Shady Canyon Golf Course in Irvine, Calif., struck a rock. Not so different from the way you play, right? Only this time, the impact caused a spark, and the spark set off a blaze that eventually covered 25 acres, according to the Steven Buck, General Manager of Shady Canyon Golf Course, and required the efforts of 150 Orange County firefighters, writes the Associated Press." - Brian Chang
