20-some yrs ago, a Filipino granny told me to cook round foods on NYE. Wear polka dots, place lil stacks of coins near doors & windows. For prosperity. I've done it ever since. Why not? Wearing black socks w purple dots tonite. Cooking meatballs.
Do you have traditions, rituals, superstitions for New Year's Eve?

liked this
to walk out the door after midnight and walk back in with the New Year.

I like that one.

I try to clean the apartment and make sure all of the trash is taken out before midnight, so I'm not carrying this year's "dirt" into the new year. Not sure how much I'll get done, since I'm at the office today, but I can at least get a litter box cleaned out.

^^we do that too! In the midst of the pre-New Year's cleaning NOW.

I make æbleskivers every New Year's morning. :)

ooh I remember you posting about those! They sound heavenly.

My family's German enough that sauerkraut and pork are involved. :)

in my childhood and teens, my folks and i just sat around watching the tube, snacking and drinking screwcap wine and playing records. in my 20s, i used to complete a painting between sundown and midnight while getting progressively more and more plastered and blasting my stereo. now we watch movies, slowly graze through various food items and sometimes play board games. since i've been with my wife, the food often features a hot pot thing called a "steamboat". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki...
- Big Joe Silenced
there was a period when our kids were very little where my wife would go to bed with them in their room on NYE and i would stay up watching horror movies by myself.

We often do board games too. Ours are packed already but we might get a game of spades in. In my twenties, I used to make a bunch of cheesecakes & have a cheesecake and champagne party to ring in the new year. I miss entertaining.

I love hot pot.

I do not have any traditions. Through high school and college I worked in restaurants so I ALWAYS worked that night. Now I work on the other side of that fence, repairing restaurant equipment. Closing the year and inventory take me well into New Year's eve. I'm usually just happy to go to bed :-)

Well then, I wish you a slow, quiet, relaxing New Year's Eve!
- Starmama
Dammit! It's your fault, LOL, we were heading to a party but MAN is feeling cruddy and decided not to go. I got my relaxing NYE, hee.
- Shannon - GlassMistress
First I thought you said he was feeling cuddly, & I was like, awww. Then I realized you said cruddy, & I was like, aw man :-(
- Starmama
Hope there's some cuddly something somewhere tonite :-)

There is a superstition around these parts that whatever you are doing at midnight is what you'll be doing all year. So, most people try to be doing something pleasant, like kissing someone they love. I'll probably be working at midnight, this year. I don't buy into the superstition, but working all year wouldn't be a bad thing.

Sleeping?

April, that's the most common superstition I've come across. I don't believe it makes any difference, but it's a great excuse to clean my house, get shit in order, and focus on the positive :-)
