Wait, Internet Explorer is dead?!?!
MS is trying to rebrand it and hoping nobody notices. It won't be called Internet Explorer when Windows 10 comes out this summer. - DB, Lil LB's Dad
so, in effect, it is NOT dead. - Big Joe Silenced
Also, it will live on the computers of anyone who doesn't upgrade to Windows 10. - John (bird whisperer)
Of course, that's part of why they're trying to give Windows 10 away to most users (even unlicensed ones.) - Jennifer Dittrich
OK, so it's only mostly dead. My understanding is that in addition to not calling it IE in Win 10, they're also not using Trident anymore. - Victor Ganata
The quote I read on The Verge was "It will still be in the pipes of the operating system." - DB, Lil LB's Dad
Ah, I see: Microsoft is killing off the Internet Explorer brand - IE will live on, but only as plumbing for Windows - 2015 Mar 17 http://www.theverge.com/2015... - Victor Ganata
LOL, is this a real quote? Or am I missing irony/sarcasm here? "We’ll continue to have Internet Explorer, but we’ll also have a new browser called Project Spartan, which is codenamed Project Spartan." - Victor Ganata
Hah, Microsoft is totally mining Halo, huh? First Cortana, and now Spartan. (OK, I don't actually know if they're referencing the SPARTAN Project from Halo, but it amuses me to believe so.) - Victor Ganata
Here is the deal. They want everyone to move to a new, modern browser. They will ship that with Windows 10. IE will still be available and likely continue to be used by enterprise customers. There are too many applications that rely on IE to just dump it for them. Everyone else, it's a clean start with a new browser which does not have a name yet. - Eric - Final Countdown
They will not be giving out Windows 10 to pirated users of other versions of Windows. That was cleared up today. - Eric - Final Countdown
Yeah we're dealing with IE hell right now at work. Just now moving people to 9. Found out last week that one of our departments needs to be moved to 10 pronto because a vendor they work with will no longer support anything less than 10 starting next month. Then of course there's the whole no support for anything less than 11 starting next January. I have a feeling Microsoft is gonna blink on that one though. Ala the XP support deadline. - DB, Lil LB's Dad
We are trying to get our desktop people to upgrade from 8. And our Java runtime from version 6. - Eric - Final Countdown
The name Internet Explorer doesn't poll well (go figure). - DB, Lil LB's Dad
Don't get me started on Java. Our boss won't let us pull the trigger on upgrading that. We're so far behind it's not even funny. Then if we get hit via an exploit folks will be looking at my team with the side eye saying "WHY HAVEN'T YOU UPGRADED JAVA IN FOREVER?!?!?!" - DB, Lil LB's Dad
We are waiting on our "Oracle developers" to just test the new version. That version 6 is so full of security holes. Might as well throw DVDs of our data on the sidewalk. - Eric - Final Countdown
IE is dead! Long live IE! - Stephan Planken
I get to try to figure out how to implement IE11 with Enterprise mode in our environment. That should be fun. We (I mostly) recommended working on transitioning to IE 11 shortly after I started as a contractor last fall. We were told no just focus on getting everybody up to 9. Now 5 months later the sky is falling and we need to start working up a plan to get everybody to 11. I wanted to say "I TOLD YOU WE NEEDED TO DO THIS MONTHS AGO!" but refrained. - DB, Lil LB's Dad
"It just so happens that your friend here is only MOSTLY dead. There's a big difference between mostly dead and all dead. Mostly dead is slightly alive." - Victor Ganata
So... IE is in the witness protection program? - Andrew C (✔)
11 is actually growing on me. It's a good browser. I use both at work. Still mostly just Chrome at home though. Only use IE when something isn't working in Chrome (likely due to an extension blocking it) when I don't feel like troubleshooting. - DB, Lil LB's Dad
IE11 is good. I just received a ticket request some group policy today for compatibility and NTLM that made me get up from my desk and leave for the day it was so wrong. I'm having a moment about IE today too. - Eric - Final Countdown
It's a bit disconcerting when I switch over to IE and get confronted with a zillion ads. I've got all that stuff shutdown in Chrome. - DB, Lil LB's Dad
I use uBlock in Chrome. I went to a newspaper site in IE and it must have taken 30 seconds to load the front page and then popped up a video ad. Seriously, this is why. - Eric - Final Countdown
