How The New Chromebook Pixel Gives The MacBook A Run For Its Money - http://readwrite.com/2015...
Just days after Apple revealed the new, improved MacBook, Google has unearthed its own refreshed laptop: the new Chromebook Pixel. Incredibly, not only is Google’s new flagship computer a solid upgrade from its predecessor, it looks like it might actually outclass the new MacBook. The Pixel’s Power When the original Chromebook Pixel came out in 2013, we marveled at Google's gall in charging over $1,300 for such a modestly powered computer. With only 4GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, and dismal five hour battery life, there wasn’t much you could do with a Pixel that you couldn’t do better on a different machine for the same price—or much less. See also: Chromebook Pixel: Why It Hurts To Slam Beautiful, Unnecessary Hardware About the only saving graces for the original Pixel were its dual-core Intel Core i5 CPU and its hi-res 2560 × 1700 pixel screen. Even still, dropping over a grand on the first Pixel seemed like an extravagant waste of money. The new Pixel, however, fixes three... - Web2024
Should We Crowdfund ReadWrite? - http://readwrite.com/2015...
When I read about Gigaom's abrupt closure, my heart skipped a beat. There but for the grace of Wearable World, I thought, went ReadWrite. Our former publisher, Say Media, was prepared to shut us down if we hadn't found a new owner. Wearable World is a good home for ReadWrite, and I'm energized by the conversations I have with our CEO, Redg Snodgrass, about our shared mission to democratize technology. Gigaom's closure is a stark reminder, though, that the conventional advertising model, even when complemented by businesses like events and research, isn't always enough to allow independent reporting about technology to thrive. ReadWrite will turn 12 on April 20, 2015. I'd like to see it keep growing through its teenage years—and realize its fullest potential. There's been a lot of buzz about saving Gigaom through a crowdfunding campaign. Om Malik is a beloved former colleague from our days at Business 2.0, and I'm friends with many current and former members of the Gigaom team. Of... - Web2024
Apple Watch Users: Do You Really Want Flipboard On Your Wrist? - http://readwrite.com/2015...
Apple Watch Following Apple’s latest press event, seemingly everyone has come out with a mock-up for what their Apple Watch app will look like. One of the latest is Flipboard, a digital magazine app that collects articles and sets them into a “smartphone magazine” of sorts. According to TechCrunch, the developer doesn't plan to release a full-fledged version for Apple's wearable, but instead plans to offer a stripped-down variation befitting a tiny display. See also: Why Phone Notifications Don't Belong On Your Wrist The approach makes sense for Flipboard, given what it does. But it makes less sense for Watch users, for whom the wrist may not be the ideal place to catch up on the news or any other sort of non-essential information. Consider this the early wave preceding a flood of pointless Watch apps that will soon vie for your arm. Have You Flipped? Flipboard knows it has a slim chance of convincing Apple Watch users to scroll through whole articles on the itty bitty screens... - Web2024

Time To Ditch Evernote? Letterspace & Fetch Are Compelling Alternatives - http://www.makeuseof.com/tag...
Evernote is the world’s most widely used notebook application, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for improvement. Letterspace and Fetchnotes are two alternative iOS notebooks that focus on quickly adding and accessing notes. I use several iOS and Mac notebooks for different purposes, and I’m always willing to try out new ones. Though my Evernote account is brimming with notes and other content I’ve saved over the years, I mostly use it for ongoing projects and still prefer lightweight notebooks for quickly typing notes and pasting content from other sources. My latest iOS notebook app of choice is the fairly new Letterspace, which doesn’t match Evernote for features, but focuses on aesthetics... Read the full article: Time To Ditch Evernote?
