Shaking up earthquake searches - http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2009...
"Now, when you search for "earthquakes" on Google, you'll get information on some of the most recent, significant earthquakes from around the world, right on the search results page." And if Google were based near the Gulf of Mexico rather than the California coast, perhaps they would have implemmented hurricanes first. - Ontario Emperor

Re: Bus driver paid students to attack kid with snowballs - http://www.inquisitr.com/19379...
"I'm in the Washington DC area on business, and this was covered in the local news this (Thursday) evening. The news didn't mention that the bus driver had gotten involved in an argument between two students, but it did include several man/woman on the street interviews that elicited responses such as "we need to check out our bus drivers more carefully." The family of the kid who was attacked now has a lawyer, so I bet that a civil suit (or threat of one) results from this." - Ontario Emperor

Landon Donovan Resumes Training With Galaxy Tuesday - http://www.insidesocal.com/soccer...
"...he saw limited action once the Bundesliga season resumed. Club officials then said Donovan wouldn't be sticking around as the club's fourth striker, saying that at age 27 (his birthday was Wednesday) he was too old to occupy a slot that should go to a younger player with more potential to develop." - Ontario Emperor

Re: The economy makes a joke of the ‘most watched country’ - http://www.inquisitr.com/13392...
"I just read something today (originally shared in FriendFeed by Kol Tregaskes) thar reminded me of Steven Hodson and his love for the UK's CCTV empire. According to an article in the Telegraph, Elavi Dowie was convicted of twice breaking the law. The law? A nineteenth century law that prohibits someone from spending more than 20 minutes selling things on Manchester's Market Street. (Dowie was once there for 35 minutes, and once for several hours.) How was he caught? CCTV cameras. A Manchester City Council spokesman was quoted: "The council enterprise and protects consumers. Mr Dowie's activities were illegal and we have a duty to protect consumers, particularly during the current economic climate. "Consumers who buy products from illegal street traders are unlikely to get their money back if they make a complaint."" - Ontario Emperor

P.D.Q. Bach [pseudonym of Peter Schickele] – Iphigenia in Brooklyn, cantata, S53162 - http://www.last.fm/music...
This piece consists of an Aria, a Recitative, a Ground, another Recitative, and another Aria. I can truly say that the Ground ("Dying, and yet in death alive") is one of my favorite pieces of music. Not just the cello or the singing, but also the double reeds - Schickele notes that many composers wrote for double reeds, but only PDQ Bach wrote for double reeds without using an oboe or bassoon.... - Ontario Emperor
