"NASA's Mercury Surface, Space Environment, Geochemistry, and Ranging spacecraft known as MESSENGER will fly by Mercury for the third and final time on Sept. 29. The spacecraft will pass less than 142 miles above the planet's rocky surface for a final gravity assist that will enable it to enter Mercury's orbit in 2011."

"The precise conditions inside a white dwarf star in the hours leading up to its explosive end as a Type Ia supernova are one of the mysteries confronting astrophysicists studying these massive stellar explosions. But now, a team of researchers, composed of three applied mathematicians at the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and two astrophysicists, has created the first full-star simulation of the hours preceding the largest thermonuclear explosions in the universe."

"Physicists at the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (Germany) have succeeded in producing a Bose-Einstein condensate from the alkaline earth element calcium. The use of alkaline earth atoms creates new potential for precision measurements, for example for the determination of gravitational fields."

"A group of MIT students have launched a low-budget satellite to near space, taking images of the curvature of Earth and the blackness of space. Their approach was to use low tech, off the shelf equipment, which included a Styrofoam beer cooler, a camera from eBay, open source software and an inexpensive helium balloon as the launch vehicle in order to do their complete mission launch for less than $150. Total cost? $148. The experience? Priceless, including getting interviewed on CNN and Fox News about their achievement. The best news for the rest of us? They'll soon be sharing an illustrated step-by-step guide on how to launch your own low-budget satellite."

One of the best moments of my delivery of both my kids was when they gave me the narcotics shots. I don't remember feeling bad though. Maybe I had lower dosages.

nah, anika, i think you were just in serious pain. i've had vicodin after not needing them anymore and they knock me right out... make me dizzy. they don't do that to me when i'm first recovering from c-section. that's when i know it's time to stop taking them and go with tylenol.

"Since the first digital electronic computers were built in the 1940s their descendants have helped change the world. These exhibits from three museums attempting to keep the story of computers past alive summarise some of the advances made."

"Scientists using the Cassini spacecraft's Magnetospheric Imaging instrument (MIMI) have detected a new, temporary radiation belt at Saturn, located around the orbit of its moon Dione at about 377,000 km from the center of the planet."

"A brother at Scetis committed a fault. A council was called to which Abba Moses was invited, but he refused to go to it. Then the priest sent someone to say to him, ‘Come, for everyone is waiting’ for you.’ So he got up and went. He took a leaking jug, filled it with water and carried it with him. The others came out to meet him and said to him, ‘What is this, Father?’ The old man said to them, ‘My sins run out behind me, and I do not see them, and today I am coming to judge the errors of another.’ When they heard that they said no more to the brother but forgave him."

I went into the ER with a fever and was promptly admitted to the hospital. The fever kept spiking in the 102-103 range. Every test they did came back negative. They assume I have some kind of infection, but don't know what or where it is. I've been pumped full of antibiotics and the fever is gone. I'll be on IV antibiotics at home for 10 days. Chemo is on hold until everything clears up. Physically and mentally exhausted, but hanging in.
