My 4yr old son got to watch the House of Commons debate extraordinary rendition in the UK Parliament today :)
IE9 has HW accelerated SVG, but no <canvas>? I don't get it. Canvas is very easy and straightforward to implement.
My son loved the London Science Museum, the first floor is like visiting a Steampunk novel, giant steam engines, the Difference Engine, the Analytical Engine, various kinds of steam driven differential equation solvers, dividers, multipliers.
My wife could not get me out of there the last time we visited London. - Vlado Handziski

Jeez, the Republicans seem so unserious in the summit, constant usage of props and talking points, platitudes.
I've never seen it explained why HTML5 canvas measureText() can only measure width, and not height, or baseline, ascent, descent, or the usual values that Windows, OSX, Linux, Java2D, and most platforms support. The method is practically useless for laying out text properly,

@dalmaer what us their objection to canvas? :)
Too much of the FF discussion of Buzz reeks of fanboyism
Fun IE6 quirk of the day: .innerHTML of <style> element returns contents, .innerText returns ""

IMHO Obama owns House GOP in Question Time, see video http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010...
Why are Republicans and shows on CNBC protesting/ridiculing high speed rail in California, and now complaining about the tens of billions of public money spent to construct California's international airports?
CNBC called them trains to no-where. Umm? So San Francisco, LA, Anaheim/San Diego are no where? And $42 billion for the route is on par with the cost of building OAK, SFO, SJC, LAX, SAN. I just don't understand how the mere mention of train travel causes a lapse of rationality in some people. - Ray Cromwell
Airports and Trains are both government build-outs and I guess airlines pay some usage fees (landing rights) but probably never equal to the cost of the planes.. but of course airports help make Boeing in business. - Harry Hawk

iPad looks like it's too big, a big iphone that will have less battery life and harder to carry. No revolutionary UI shown yet.

No WebGL in Firefox 3.6? :(
Do you have to toggle the about:config option? webgl.enabled_for_all_sites -> true - Matt M (inactive)
Hmm. Didn't seem to work. I haven't got webGL working beyond simple experimentation with WebGL arrays in any browser ever, to be honest. :) - Matt M (inactive)

Massachusetts voters voted for health care reform for their own state, but now get to vote it down for everyone else? WTF
Haven't heard/had a thunderstorm in Bay Area so long, I thought it was an earthquake at first.
NVidia GF100 details, first GPU to break the 1triangle/clk barrier, 16 parallel tessellation units, 4x-8x geometry performance over previous chips, 3 billion transistors, 40% faster physics, >2 billion triangles/sec, http://www.pcper.com/article...
Geez. 1 triangle per cycle is so hard to fathom, especially at 850 MHz. And I'm so far behind the times I don't even know what to do with a tessellation unit yet! - Joel Webber

Ex-UN Weapons inspector charged with child sex offense? http://news.bbc.co.uk/2... I'm not sure how quite to feel about this. Did he commit an actual crime? No actual 15 year old girl was involved, he allegedly just exposed himself in a webcam for a police woman posing as a 15 year old, and for that, go to jail for 7 years?
The nature of these pedophile stings kind of bother me slightly. As a parent, I worry about pedophiles, but if someone performs cybersex with an adult, who lies about their age and says they're 15 years old, how can you throw someone in jail for 7 years for that? The crime only happened in the mind of the perp. Does that mean people who consume "barely legal" porn in which adult actresses pretend to be borderline illegal are all guilty? - Ray Cromwell
Scratch that, this seems like a pattern. Scott Ritter was caught before trying to arrange, and showing up at, a physical meeting with a "16 year old" in 2001. The first case was dismissed, but the fact that he is up to it again shows he can't really help himself (wouldn't you quit after having had a case dismissed, almost being sent to jail?). These kind of stings still make me feel uneasy since the police are essentially going online and trying to seduce people, preying on their weaknesses. - Ray Cromwell

I want one in my phone/netbook: nVidia introduces Tegra 2 at CES (http://bit.ly/8f82E1) Dual 1 Ghz ARM cores, high speed 3D, 100% HW H.264 1080p decoding for up to 16 hrs on a single charge.
That's more powerful than laptops I've had in the not-so-distant past. - Matt M (inactive)
I guess Firefox really is going to have to work out some way to get H.264 <video> decoding in (as opposed to the vorbis decoding in CPU), because it's going to rapidly appear slow & battery heavy compared to browsers that can take advantage of this. - Nick Lothian
