"According to the Labor Dept., older Americans (65+) spent about 400 hours—or 16 days—on average on “Other Leisure” time, which basically includes anything that’s not T.V., socializing, relaxing, and reading. Even if all of that leisure time was devoted to travel, that’s not any more than the three weeks of vacation you’re probably earning by the age of 30. So much for that round-the-world trip! So what are they spending time doing? They’re watching T.V.—about 4.4 hours of it per day. That’s quite a bit higher than the 3.3 hours Americans of all ages watch on a weekend day. By comparison, the older Americans spent less than an hour per day on average with friends."

I put JT in the Bumbo a couple days ago, and he fared surprisingly well in it for being only a few weeks old. I hope he doesn't mind sitting in a pink chair.

The older I get, the more impressed I am by the work my aunt and uncle have done to empower people with disabilities.

We could all take something from STIC's Values:
We value the ability of every human being to reach for their dream.
We hold that each individual has strengths and weaknesses that must be taken into account in their journey toward their dreams. Each individual must accept the responsibility for the dream, the journey, as well as the work to get there.
We offer support, ideas, tools, training, respect and concern.
We will not do for, when it can be done by the person.
We will not patronize for the sake of efficiency, or in the guise of caring. We will try to understand when this causes fear, anger and frustration.
As we develop programs and policies, we will be guided by the dreams and abilities of the people we serve.
No matter how difficult the road, we will always choose the path of inclusion and integration.
We will not sacrifice our principles or values for money, convenience or expediency.
We will not shy away from controversy if that controversy will further our mission.
We offer hope and continue to look at each person as a unique and joyful experience that will teach us, and take us on a journey where we have never been.

She said she learned from her father, Johnny Cash, “that your style is a function of your limitations, more so than a function of your skills.”

Meg is 6 weeks old tomorrow, and I still can't think straight. It might be partially the sleep deprivation, but I think this mental fog goes beyond that. Specifically, if Meg is crying, I can't think about anything other than how to help her (which is a problem when I am driving, for example). Any other moms out there experience this? How did you cope?
