Sure I have, you just need people who aren't always on message and are interested in having a conversation. The moderator must do their job with a certain viscousness.

Yes, yes, they're not. What I find valuable may differ from others. Also, 'panels' isn't a homogenous thing. The subject matter and personalities go a long way to a person's enjoyment. A panel of thought leaders waffling on with self importance and LOOK HOW SMART I AM is boring. A panel by an indie film maker or some of the non-tech industry panels I've been to (and watched online) are great. Maybe a cookie?

Entertainment panels can be great. I've watched a few Community ones (writers, actors) and a Futurama writers one and they were all informative and entertaining.
