I was a grown adult before I realized people talking about Stairway to Heaven weren't necessarily talking about the O'Jays.

Same. I think I was about 22. I had only associated the other song with white hang out places in (segregated) Kansas City. When I got to college, I was surprised people listened to it. Constantly. All. Day.

I don't really know either song you're talking about.

I honestly don't know that I've ever heard the O'Jays song (though, maybe I have, and just never realized that was the title). Unfortunately, I have heard the Zeppelin song quite a bit, and have never enjoyed it.

I had listened to both songs growing up, but was more familiar with Zeppelin's. Everyone I knew who was taking music (especially guitar) lessons played THAT song. I ended up hating it for a long time because I was so sick of it. When I took guitar lessons I promised my instructor I wouldn't ask him to teach me that song.

Anika, I have felt your pain.
