RT @jsteeleeditor: I love our "Beautiful" covers (am obviously partial to this one http://shop.oreilly.com/product...) but C.J. Date wins best cover: http://shop.oreilly.com/product...
RT @ejacqui: Do any of you actually use apps to help with gardening? Just curious as to what you use (if anything).
@Skud Github seems to be becoming the new default, ever more external services integrate with it directly. The network effect is kicking in.
@Skud All that said though, the requirement bar for even considering a self-hosted option is pretty damn high.
@Skud Since you're asking about open-source self-hosted issue tracking options, my preference is Trac.
@jzellis Cory D has ankle-biters too (not you) when talking about publishing. You just need to get better at your own brand of punditry.
@jzellis News Flash: Most people are unethical, lazy, and stupid.
@jzellis It isn't usually their right to do copyright that is in question, just the wisdom of exercising it in particular ways.
@jzellis I didn't say that I agree with people who violate copyright (I try not to do it myself), I was just saying what the rationale was.
@jzellis We don't argue!? What planet have you been on?
@jzellis the 'people' you're talking about are actually mostly *not* nerds.
@jzellis In part because of unreasonable copyright extensions, but I actually know some folks who *do* take that stance.
@jzellis I have seen pundits argue that content should be FAIS, but not necessarily FAIB.
@jzellis You're smart, you know the difference between maximizing # of people who pay, rather than minimizing % of people who get it free.
@jzellis Here is interesting stat: http://www.humblebundle.com/ Linux users pay $3.70 more. Seems the 'nerds' want to give musicians more money.
@jzellis Doesn't that usually happen when the artist is parroting labels' arguments?
@jzellis If musicians want geeks to stop using music industry strawmen, they need to stop letting that industry speak for them.
@jzellis But policy has been driven by how music industry has made money in past, not by how musicians make money.
@jzellis Not the code (unless Open Sourced), but the team and basic idea? Sure. Would another VC take that chance? Maybe not.
@jzellis In fact, in policy-making circles, that is only just now changing (post-SOPA).
@jzellis I dunno, I watched the conversation about tech being driven by music industry people for quite a while.
@jzellis if a startup tanks, the entrepreneur doesn't stay on the hook to the VCs.
@jzellis Well, sure. But you'd get just as skewed a view of average relationships by reading magazines like People or Us.
@jzellis I just scanned through the first 120 articles on HN, and didn't see any that match that sentiment. Would appreciate an example.
@jzellis Who says bootstrapping a startup is unrealistic?
@jzellis Yes! I would totally organize a conference *just* to have you keynote it. GrimMeathookCon?
@digiphile Just noting the pendulum tends to swing between extremes. Few individuals or orgs actually evaluate risks/benefits rationally.

Are you a fan of @sgblank's #custdev #manifesto? I'd like your feedback on a project I'm working on!
@brantcooper no rush. Email sent from michael @ fandomhome.
@brantcooper @pv BTW, I'm working on a #custdev related design project. If you'd like early access, I'd appreciate your opinions.
