"everything as a service" - Cloud Is Internet's Next Generation, HP Executive Says - http://www.pcworld.com/article...
not really breaking news except HP's posture on Cloud. I can see a "we are not a printer company anymore" ads....similar to Amazon a while back. A noteworthy mention is HP's new Photosmart Pro web enabled printer. - SnakeDoc
Interesting. Everyone is getting into that game. - Roberto Bonini
"Everything as a service" is nonsense hype that ignores what happens when the service provider experiences a failure/outage/hiccup. Unlike local resources, you can't fix it yourself, you have to wait for the service operator to do so. Oh yeah, and if said cloud is going out of business, you're stuck with whatever data retrieval methods they give you. Just ask the folks who'd uploaded 1000s of photos to Kodak's service, only to have it go out of biz but allow them to recover only 1 photo at a time. People need to stop pitching the whole cloud thing as if it's the Jesus of the future. There are many applications it's good for, but there are also many for which it is just a really poor fit. - LANjackal
First direct visualization of memory formation in the brain / UCLA Newsroom - http://newsroom.ucla.edu/portal...
UCLA and McGill University researchers have, for the first time, "photographed" a memory in the making. This is the first study to directly visualize protein synthesis at individual synapses. The studies revealed an exquisite level of control over the specificity of regulation of new protein synthesis. "While this was not really surprising to us given the complexity of information processing in the brain," said Martin, "visualizing the process of protein synthesis at individual synapses, and beginning to discern the elegance of its regulation, leaves us, as biologists, with a wonderful sense of awe." - SnakeDoc

Of course, that blurb he wrote to describe his "manifesto" could have been lifted straight out of the wikipedia for "Realism" or any of a number of philosophical streams. I wonder if he has anything original to say. - Zach Landes
