QforQ on Today is the 6 month anniversary of my stream, and the second month I've been able to do this for a living. Thank you, /r/twitch, for being such an invaluable resource. - http://www.reddit.com/r...
"Congrats dude. Really admire that you've been able to make this happen in such a short period of time." - Sam Houston
QforQ on So my 2014 Xmas poster came in the mail yesterday..I'm still in shock - http://www.reddit.com/r...

QforQ on Twitch to Acquire GoodGame Agency - http://www.reddit.com/r...
"I suppose so, but they could roll up that service as part of an offering for people who pay for Turbo or for people with Amazon Prime. Now that they're part of Amazon and have access to nearly infinite servers they should expand their offerings that were previously limited by hardware." - Sam Houston

QforQ on The Dream Walker full stream! Let's discuss - http://www.reddit.com/r...
"This makes me excited to see what he'll bring to blink when they record their new record. Great to see that Ilan was a good influence on Tom, hopefully it expanded his sound and how he collaborates with others. Neighborhoods felt like a record that was recorded with pieces of each guy mashed together, not enough collaboration between all of them. It didn't feel cohesive. Hopefully the new album will be better :)" - Sam Houston
QforQ on Honestly, What do you think the chance of hitbox taking over the stream game is? - http://www.reddit.com/r...
"There's nothing in that article about their infrastructure. Min the Redbull interview they say a lot of general/vague things about their platform and website but don't say much about their hardware situation. My argument is that video streaming startups need money to burn because this stuff is expensive. Where is their money coming from and what does their runway look like?" - Sam Houston

"They've only been at their current level for the last few months and have yet to do any meaningful integrations with Amazon. I imagine you could see this quite a bit if you started pulling Twitch streams into game pages on Amazon." - Sam Houston

QforQ on Honestly, What do you think the chance of hitbox taking over the stream game is? - http://www.reddit.com/r...
"Slim to none. They don't have the infrastructure, I doubt they have the technical expertise and talent to scale something at Twitch's scale. That said, maybe they raise venture capital and they're able to scale up their team and their infrastructure. Streaming services are very expensive to operate, makes it a very hard market to enter." - Sam Houston

QforQ on Mass CPU Usage - http://www.reddit.com/r...
"Yeah, basically that x264 means how much time your CPU takes to compress stuff. The slower it goes, the more it can compress it but also the more power that demands from your processor. Setting it faster removes some of the heavy lifting, at the sacrifice of quality. The more processing = the more compressed and fewer jaggies/pixelated/etc" - Sam Houston
QforQ on Mass CPU Usage - http://www.reddit.com/r...
"You need to turn down your x264 preset, that's what is more than likely taking up a lot of CPU power. You've set it at a very, very aggressive rate. I'd set it at "Very Fast", maybe set it at "Fast" and see if that works. I've got the same CPU and I've overclocked mine to 4.4 ghz and run my encoder at "Fast". Also, your bitrate is extremely low..so the stream will probably not look that great. But I'm not sure what you're streaming and how much movement/detail is on screen...." - Sam Houston
QforQ on How is Twitch going to react with Steam's new broadcasting streams ? They worried? are famous twitch celebrities worried they might lose viewers? - http://www.reddit.com/r...
"It's too early to tell because the feature set is too limited. Twitch and Steam both serve different purposes and different people, but there's a lot of overlap there. It's too early to tell what Steam actually intends for this thing to be. Is it just a way to watch friends play games, check something out before I buy it? Or is it a platform for creating entertainment? Currently Steam's broadcast only exists if someone is watching it, it's tied to a specific game so if you shutdown the game the stream shuts down too, there's no webcam or overlay capability, no ingest server to stream to through a 3rd party client (OBS), etc etc. Steam's cool if you want a mediocre stream from a friend but it doesn't serve the more serious user or viewer that wants higher production value. But who knows, this is just their first version..maybe they'll add that stuff eventually? Steam does some stuff well but they kinda suck at a lot of other stuff....their OS kinda sucks, their Steam machine kinda..." - Sam Houston
QforQ on Mass Message Followers Idea - http://www.reddit.com/r...
"I've wanted something very similar. I think they could create an "opt-in" mailing list type feature and add it as an button or panel that appears below your stream. I've considered creating a free MailChimp mailing list and using that to email followers. I think it really sucks that I have no means to communicate with my followers through Twitch, other than creating a broadcast and hoping they watch it live or watch a highlight." - Sam Houston

QforQ on Voice normalization/changer hardware? - http://www.reddit.com/r...
"What I do is run my AT2020 USB through Adobe Audition, then run a bunch of presets through the mic. I use Adaptive Noise reduction and parametric equalizer, to help reduce background noise and to bring out a bit more bass in my voice. I haven't messed with a compressor yet, but you can run those in software too. This is how I did it: https://obsproject.com/forum... This process creates a lag in your audio signal, so you will have to delay your webcam for a bit. For me, that means delaying the webcam by 12 milliseconds." - Sam Houston

QforQ on Response from Twitch staff member about the ads for Swiftor appearing on other channels - http://www.reddit.com/r...
"Sure. - There needs to be a much bigger, more comprehensive approach on building a streamer community and creating opportunities to help and learn from another. This sub-reddit does a very poor job of serving the needs of a streamer to learn and connect with other streamers, and unfortunately this sub-reddit is one of the only options to do that. Many people talk about how you need to network, meet other streamers, collaborate and learn from others. There is no great way to do this, which creates a huge barrier to entry for noobs and longtime streamers alike. This should be addressed with forum or some other means to meet others, discuss issues in-depth and over long periods of time. There should be resources created for streamers, suggestions for streamers from Twitch that are based on data and analysis, etc. - There need to be many more ways to discover streams on the site. I should be able to search by people who are similar to X streamer, search by time of day that someone..." - Sam Houston
QforQ on Response from Twitch staff member about the ads for Swiftor appearing on other channels - http://www.reddit.com/r...
"I understand what you're saying...but those promotion methods are few, only highlight a very small number of streamers, and they are typically very heavily influenced by personal relationships with Twitch staff. Most streamers that are highlighted in Twitch Weekly are people that the hosts watch or are friends with already. Twitch's homepage is partners and companies. Etc. Don't get me wrong, I think it's good that they highlight people in these various methods. But these promotion channels aren't able to serve a community of Twitch's scale. I'm not expecting to " just stream" and I don't think many in this sub-reddit have that expectation, or if they did, you lose that pretty quickly. I expect more effort and opportunities from Twitch, rather than general acceptance of the current situation and people telling me that "this is just the way it works"." - Sam Houston
QforQ on What should I do to prepare myself to(possibly)apply for a career at twitch? - http://www.reddit.com/r...
"A computer science degree would be fine. Typically at a tech company their engineering team is way bigger than any other team in the company, so there's more opportunities there. Twitch is relatively large company so they have a lot of other stuff too, including marketing, business development, sales, accounting, etc. But they will always have way more engineers (programmers) than anything else." - Sam Houston

QforQ on Response from Twitch staff member about the ads for Swiftor appearing on other channels - http://www.reddit.com/r...
"I'd like to hear more about what Twitch plans to do to help streamers grow their audience, especially smaller streamers that aren't featured on the homepage or part of branded promotions. It's common knowledge that it's extremely difficult to build a channel's audience. Is there anything being in the product, or via community, to help improve streamers and help grow their audience?" - Sam Houston
QforQ on Anti-Competitive ADs need to go...this is a low blow - http://www.reddit.com/r...
"Cool, well I'm very glad to hear that you're taking discoverability seriously. As a streamer myself, I find it very frustrating and demotivating that conventional wisdom is that most streamers will never gain many viewers. Obviously this is a hard problem to solve on a UGC platform, but I hope there are more opportunities for streamers to grow their community. Thank you for hearing me out! :)" - Sam Houston
QforQ on Anti-Competitive ADs need to go...this is a low blow - http://www.reddit.com/r...
"Interesting, have you guys found why that is? I imagine there are several reasons..people like to watch a stream that other people are watching (social acceptance, being apart of a group, etc), in some cases it could be quality..... Hopefully you guys and gals can figure that out. It'd be a shame if it's just considered "the way things work", and that there's not much to do that will help a streamer grow their audience." - Sam Houston
