"It's too early to tell because the feature set is too limited. Twitch and Steam both serve different purposes and different people, but there's a lot of overlap there. It's too early to tell what Steam actually intends for this thing to be. Is it just a way to watch friends play games, check something out before I buy it? Or is it a platform for creating entertainment? Currently Steam's broadcast only exists if someone is watching it, it's tied to a specific game so if you shutdown the game the stream shuts down too, there's no webcam or overlay capability, no ingest server to stream to through a 3rd party client (OBS), etc etc. Steam's cool if you want a mediocre stream from a friend but it doesn't serve the more serious user or viewer that wants higher production value. But who knows, this is just their first version..maybe they'll add that stuff eventually?
