"It's too early to tell because the feature set is too limited. Twitch and Steam both serve different purposes and different people, but there's a lot of overlap there. It's too early to tell what Steam actually intends for this thing to be. Is it just a way to watch friends play games, check something out before I buy it? Or is it a platform for creating entertainment? Currently Steam's broadcast only exists if someone is watching it, it's tied to a specific game so if you shutdown the game the stream shuts down too, there's no webcam or overlay capability, no ingest server to stream to through a 3rd party client (OBS), etc etc. Steam's cool if you want a mediocre stream from a friend but it doesn't serve the more serious user or viewer that wants higher production value. But who knows, this is just their first version..maybe they'll add that stuff eventually? Steam does some stuff well but they kinda suck at a lot of other stuff....their OS kinda sucks, their Steam machine kinda..."
