From the article by Jeremy C. Owens, published at 1:33 today: "A PayPal spinoff isn't enough for eBay -- the company now plans to lay off thousands of workers and split off yet another independent company as its auction site suffers.
eBay announced Wednesday afternoon that it would slash 2,400 jobs, about 7 percent of its global work force, as it struggles to bounce back from a cyberattack that forced all users to reset their passwords. The e-commerce giant will also split off its eBay Enterprise business, which manages online sales efforts for other businesses."

Yeah, this is a bad one. Personally, I've never used eBay and never really "got" it. But it's surprising to me they're attributing the drop-off in customers to the password change.

I'm a sometimes eBay user. A few times a year. I had completely forgotten about the password thing.

I attribute the drop-off in users to the increase in other services. eBay stopped being a real "auction" site a while ago (yes, people do still auction things on there, but most of the listings are "buy it now" types of listings), and the whole "buy it now" type of listing is much better represented in places like Amazon now.
