So, after reading about the Friends findability problem (http://friendfeed.com/lsw...), I thought to myself "self, you've only seen an episode here and there, mostly late in the series. Maybe you should try watching this show from the beginning". How did this thing ever last 10 seasons? I'm trying to give it a fair shake, but 6 episodes in...
...I'm not sure I want to continue to put up with homophobic jokes and these characters complaining about their life when they have it pretty damn good.

Lots of us didn't, I think. A TV show can be highly popular these days while being ignored or disliked by the vast majority of people. (I tried an episode or two, but two of the cast--one male, one female--drove me up the wall so badly that I gave up.)

I'm a huge HUGE fan of Friends (no offense taken, of course). In my opinion, it gets better in the 2nd-5th seasons.

I liked it better than Seinfeld. Jerry and company were funny and clever but they were all such assholes I couldn't really watch them.

Oh Gaia. I could never make it through a single episode of Seinfeld--I think 10 minutes was the longest I lasted. But, as with Friends, different strokes.

I think I liked it better when I was closer in age to the characters, maybe? But now, it seems like a broadcast from some weird fantasy planet.

It had some sharp comic timing and huge guest stars and a talented ensemble. I was never hugely into it but I watched maybe 30 episodes. I think it was more successful overseas than here, and it was a huge success here. But comedies are much more idiosyncratic than dramas -- they have to hit your humor sensibility just right.
