- Steve Gillmor
Waiting for the call!
- Robert Scoble
so whats on the todays Agenda?
- Nick Halstead
Nick: you! :-) Seriously.
- Robert Scoble
I am here. Where is everybody?
- Francine Hardaway
lol - my ears are burning already
- Nick Halstead
Coming online shortly.
- Robert Scoble
So, Nick, can DataSift get rid of anyone talking about Fast Company's influence project or SXSW Panels?
- Robert Scoble
yes
- Nick Halstead
Awesome!
- Robert Scoble
you can build rules to remove as well as find
- Nick Halstead
finally found a way to use the Wibiya toolbar-- to watch GG
- Francine Hardaway
Here we go
- Kevin Costain
Oh sweet, Andrew Keen. An Educated Man
- Francine Hardaway
check this rule I tweeted -> http://twitter.com/DataSif... - finds all ISBN numbers - no idea why you would want to do it - but its geeky :)
- Nick Halstead
Would love to get rid of the FC Influence project
- Francine Hardaway
I'm not sure if having Platforms and Service Providers talking together behind close doors really IS a good thing. These discussions need to be done in the public forum.
- manielse (Mark Nielsen)
Steve went soft for a minute
- Francine Hardaway
hehe
- Robert Scoble
I hope the Oracle lawsuit gets discussed.
- Jim Posner
Jim: I'm sure it will.
- Robert Scoble
And in 5 years, mobile will be much more robust and relevant WHILE Broadband will be less relevant.
- manielse (Mark Nielsen)
And Facebook needs some credit to still stand against this direction.
- manielse (Mark Nielsen)
Robert- I am curious about your thoughts about J. Schwartz using the Google suit as a honey pot for the Oracle acq.
- Jim Posner
Google/ Verizon didn't pass a law, they agreed on a proposal for a framework.
- coldbrew
coldbrew: yes, but what they say publicly is important in terms of direction. Laws come after proposals and public stances. Google has lots of people lobbying government.
- Robert Scoble
evidently Verizon does not want me to watch this in real time. I can't get the video to work at all. ca I'll tryi and pick it up on ustream on the phone.
- Karoli
Well, good lord, I am glad you are using your distribution to help make it more publicly known.
- coldbrew
karoli: this is a ~500kbps stream, and 3G networks still only do that well in bursts.
- coldbrew
Jim: I'mnot sure I have a good opinion or visibility onto that. What do you think? Jonathan seems to have used it to get out of Sun and get Sun out of a bad spot in the marketplace. Sun wasn't going to be a major player long term and Jonathan seemed to know that.
- Robert Scoble
"Verizon cracking the whip on Google." So the carriers are still in charge. I thought that was over.
- Francine Hardaway
Keen: those types of suppositions are not helpful and simply red herrings.
- coldbrew
Robert-Miguel de Icaza's blog has some interesting comments on Schwartz http://tirania.org/blog... must read if you haven't
- Jim Posner
@Francine - ISPs/Carriers are always in charge.
- manielse (Mark Nielsen)
I spoke to an ATT field guy yesterday day and he told me ATT will be and is getting away from cable and moving to WiMax.
- Jim Posner
Posner: Really? Not LTE?
- coldbrew
Jim: yes, that's a must read. I already had retweeted that.
- Robert Scoble
clearwire is also looking at lte
- coldbrew
It would be best if we are not left with a double standard where we rehash the CDMA /GSM game and continue to compound that with frequency differences (there is no 3G data for the iphone on Tmob's network). Switching costs are not low enough to engender competition.
- coldbrew
David Bois also adds weight to the case. Surprised he took it.
- Jim Posner
Another good article on Google vs. Oracle: http://www.groklaw.net/article...
- Robert Scoble
there is a Sun JDK license cost for the ARM platform
- coldbrew
JQuery is Javascript
- manielse (Mark Nielsen)
how do you gauge revenue for search marketing distribution in the 'local 'space?
- coldbrew
Thanks Mark.
- Robert Scoble
thus the "J"
- Tina Chase Gillmor
Google doesn't get "social" because they have too many PHd's - they are NOT the most social people on the planet
- Rob La Gesse
there is still interest in the Wave Protocol; SAP and Novell both were developing compatible products
- coldbrew
I love the idea of DataSift. Get it done, dude
- Francine Hardaway
Novell should completely take over Wave IMO...
- manielse (Mark Nielsen)
i'd rather see it become an apache project
- coldbrew
stream is strong today
- Tina Chase Gillmor
Dont talk Tina. You will jinx it
- Francine Hardaway
Who wants to give the newly crowned "evil Google" even more personal data?
- Rob La Gesse
the point here is - that the twitter stream / facebook stream - is data about what is important on the internet
- Nick Halstead
Google still relies upon pagerank - links between pages
- Nick Halstead
And people don't go to pages anymore unless they've gone to Twitter or FB first
- Francine Hardaway
But Google could be an Aggregation/Search Layer on top of these other Social Tools.
- manielse (Mark Nielsen)
@manielse - but they will never own that data - and that would destroy them long term
- Nick Halstead
Wave was potentially their winner in the social space -- they don't seem to understand though.
- Brian Sullivan
But they didn't provide a use case or an interface Brian
- Francine Hardaway
Wave was in a different social space that nobody else is in -- corporate collaboration.
- Brian Sullivan
As I said Francine they didn't understand.
- Brian Sullivan
That would have been a long sales cycle:-)
- Francine Hardaway
Maybe Nick. Most of that data has a very small lifecycle of relevance though.
- manielse (Mark Nielsen)
personally, my interest in Wave was not in any way related to google other than their engineers contributing
- coldbrew
Is Google buying twitter completely off the table?
- Jim Posner
Small business is all about collaboration though.
- Brian Sullivan
i believe it is
- coldbrew
My current conpiracy theory for the end of WAVE is that they realized it would diminish part of their value proposition (in the long-run).
- coldbrew
But I can do that on Tweetdeck, big deal.
- manielse (Mark Nielsen)
stream splicing
- Jim Posner
Yes, Jim
- Francine Hardaway
Mark: not well, and TweetDeck isn't sharable. Can you share your searches with me? Thought not.
- Robert Scoble
So is that what Datasift is?
- Francine Hardaway
Mark: I can share any search I do on Google with you.
- Robert Scoble
Francine: according to Nick, yes.
- Robert Scoble
Good point Robert.
- manielse (Mark Nielsen)
If that's what it is, I cannot wait. That would take Flowtown one level deeper
- Francine Hardaway
I just want Nick to know that I signed up ASAP and really want chosen ASAP for the beta :)
- Rob La Gesse
So did I, Rob, me too.
- Francine Hardaway
yes - you can build a stream - then share it - and base your share upon someone elses stream
- Nick Halstead
Library of Congress has the original tweet, and probably a card catalogue where you can look for it LOL
- Francine Hardaway
ListiMonkey can do some of what Steve wants for Twitter Lists, albeit only as an email alert.
- Alex Schleber
Steve is definitely NOT talking about email alerts
- Tina Chase Gillmor
Scoble's post from Hudson crash: http://twitter.com/Scoblei...
- manielse (Mark Nielsen)
GTalk, Jabber - that's where I want to see the results of my searches.
- Rob La Gesse
We really want Per User/Per Group keyword based surfacing (or muting) as described here: http://businessmindhacks.com/post...
- Alex Schleber
it is interesting to note that the original track feature from twitter was on top of xmpp, just like the wave protocol
- coldbrew
what I am looking to most - is actually Twitter Annotations - because that extra data will be able to be leveraged by DataSift immediately
- Nick Halstead
Ah everybody wants the RMM feature.
- Brian Sullivan
because so many 3rd party apps will start putting so much cool meta data - and Google wont be able to make use of it - because they only know about indexing text
- Nick Halstead
Just signed up as a Datasift alpha tester..Nick over to you..:-)
- Jim Posner
Mark, did you get Scoble's tweet back out of Friendfeed as the archive? :)
- Alex Schleber
Yes Alex. :-)
- manielse (Mark Nielsen)
Sullivan seems to be humoring him
- coldbrew
Huge difference: Enterprise World vs RoW
- manielse (Mark Nielsen)
Nick, me,me,me,me,me!
- Francine Hardaway
Scoble - Real Time example - I am looking for a company that hosts with us that sells millions of small parts - like parts for Air Conditioners, etc. Need to use them as an example to a potential customer.
- Rob La Gesse
Gesse: a real-time feed of inventory based on a local network of junk/parts dealers
- coldbrew
I wonder if we need a personal "Business Intelligence" type tool. One that can search, aggregate different data sources, curate, compile, roll up, etc into dashboards.
- manielse (Mark Nielsen)
Robert: also see this: http://twitpic.com/2ef7ln
- Richard
He's biking more....LOL
- manielse (Mark Nielsen)
Scoble got some summer sun, a rarity for a geek :)
- Alex Schleber
RMM again -- the holy grail of information retrieval
- Brian Sullivan
Just noticed Twitter added the "You both Follow" feature as well.
- manielse (Mark Nielsen)
The new Android voice app is very nice!
- manielse (Mark Nielsen)
I think the topic is about the voice recognition technologies
- coldbrew
thanks for the good stream
- coldbrew
Nice show everyone. Ta ta until next week
- Rob La Gesse
Yes nice show. Thanks everyone
- Tina Chase Gillmor
