I am having a hard time coming up with a better image to use though.

We still use a right pointing arrow for play despite the majority of media not spooling tape. Icons transcend

What Skyler said. I think as things become more abstract, there really are no better ways to communicate them in a simple icon. Even if todays kids have no idea what a floppy is, that icon is familiar.....what Johnny said. LOL.

Hell, the icon for Compose is usually paper and pen of some kind, isn't it? :)

Maybe a cloud?

Many cellphones still use the landline handset as an icon for "call".

Actually, why even have a Save function. Modern software saves as you go... Even more so in the direction apple is going...

We also still use the paper clip to signify 'attachment'.

And scissors for cut and glue for paste.
