When does the parenting thing from move from thoroughly exhausting into any other phase? When they leave for college?
Not sure. I have one in his second year of college and it hasn't gotten any less exhausting yet. It's a different kind of exhausting, but exhausting nonetheless. - WebGoddess
Death? - Soup in a TARDIS
Why do people have these things again then? - Steve C, Team Marina
So they'll have someone to empty the dishwasher? (This is what my dad always claimed :P ) - Soup in a TARDIS
When you are pushing up daises - VALZONE#SCREWED
All joking aside, I think every month gets slightly less exhausting (sleep regressions & teething excluded). YMMV - Jaclyn aka spamgirl
9 months was pretty awesome until we stopped sleeping because teething. - Jenica
14 is ok. But we only have one. I had to ask him to clean out the dishwasher. Again. - Joe
Dang Jenica you got to 9 months pre teething, We hit that at 5 months and sleep now down to 1.5 hours at a time. His first two teeth are in looks like two more locked and loaded for arrival. - Steve C, Team Marina
After 3 years old I think. They can express themselves fairly well then and they want to help out (at least until the teen years). I'm still tired a lot: driving, homework, drama, etc. But it's a good tired. I like being a dad. Edit: As to "why"? *shrug* The best explanation I ever heard was, "It's in the blood." Biological/evolutionary imperative I guess. - MoTO Boychick Devil
There's a period of time in the early teen years where all they do is sleep. That's a nice phase. - m9m, Crone of FriendFeed
I found I had a lot more free time when they learned to drive. - Ken Morley
^^This. Too bad I spent it worrying about all the other idiots in cars out there, just driving around until they crossed paths with my kid. Fortunately, this never actually happened and he's yet to get in a wreck. **knock on wood** - WebGoddess
^^ I was more worried about the other drivers. ;) - Ken Morley
We were doing so well until teething started a week ago. Now we're in the phase where she doesn't sleep for more than an hour at a time and that's pretty hellacious. - Brian Johns
There is a bubble between ~12 and the midpoint of high school (US version). They start to get more human after that as the various parts of their brains finish wiring up. observation: Helicopter parenting extends the bubble significantly.Facing and overcoming responsibilities on their own (with overt support and maybe a bit of help from behind the curtain) in high school will significantly ease things. - Technodad
The 14 yo i mentioned starts driving lessons this spring. I certainly hope his attention span changes once he starts driving. - Joe
