Mandy's #SaturdayFF (http://friendfeed.com/starmam...) reminds me of the time my friend and I saw the Violent Femmes for free. It was college and I had to interview them for a story I was doing. They were playing at Bridges Auditorium & public transpo was the pits.

I asked a friend for a ride and to wait for me. She was something of a wanderer. If you told her to stay put for 5 minutes, you're going to spend the next hour looking for her. I got into the theatre, ID'd myself and was taken to some seats to wait for the group. My appt. was at 2 and around 2:15pm, I started getting annoyed at them being late. Suddenly, I the lady came over and told me they were running late and asked if I could stay during the sound check. That was a lot longer than what I told my friend, so just as I was about to get up to go outside to tell her of the change, I notice that she's actually dancing across the stage as it's being set up.

After 20 minutes of yelling at her, the stage people & I finally get her off the stage. I explain everything and she's willing to stay longer We go back to our seats and are just chatting when they dude came up to us, butting into our conversation. I gave him a dirty look for being rude and just ignored him. My friend started talking to him, thumbs at me, "You were rude, so she's now going to give you a hard time and try to make you cry." He smiles, "Challenge accepted!". Whatever.

He then asks us if we're there for the sound check and my friend explains the whole situation to him. He says that's cool then tells us he's there for the sound check and takes us to the booth. We go in there and he's asking us questions about the band; our favorite song, album, band member...me and my friend are both fighting with each other over lyrics (she's terrible with them) and what songs we loved best. He's like, "I never expected to meet 2 black girls who even knew the Violent Femmes. Are you coming to the show?" We explained that being broke, we didn't get tickets. He said he'd put us on will call.

Now, all this time, we're hearing the names of the members being called onto the stage. This dude and his coworkers were talking to us the whole time, then suddenly this other lady came over, gave me and my friends strange looks then told the guys, "That's enough. Get in line." Eek. She looked pretty scary, so we left those guys alone. I went to find the PR lady to find out when or if I'll get an interview. She looked at me like I lost my mind, "But...." and pointed at the stage. Those dudes we were talking to were the Violent Femmes!

I looked at my friend, she looked at me and laughed. "I thought they looked familiar!" DUDE. I had never seen a single music video of theirs, so I literally had no idea what they looked like. I stood there, shook my head and left. We went out to eat, then came back to see the show. During their 4th number, they introduced us to the entire audience, which was embarrassing as hell. Then they asked us to come on stage (my friend did) and that was even worse.
