Shut it, kid. Neil deGrasse Tyson has spoken and you do not mess around with Neil deGrasse Tyson.
- Akiva
It's a planet.
- Jim #teamFFrank
Nope. It's not. It's a dwarf planet.
- Akiva
I believe it's a planet too
- Alfredo 亜瑠布れっど
like Ceres, Haumea, Makemake, and Eris..Pluto is a dwarf planet.
- Carlos Ayala
Planet being the operative word.
- Jim #teamFFrank
just because it has the term "planet" in its classification, it does not make it a planet. a planet needs 3 characteristics to be fulfilled. Pluto meets two of them. Pluto as of the 2006 definition by the IAU, is not a planet. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki...

*sigh* you astrophysicists have no sense of humor at all.
- Jim #teamFFrank
to be clear though, Jim, as to my opinion on all this... i consider Pluto a planet in my heart. :)
- Carlos Ayala
Oh, yeah, me too. In my heart there will always be 9 planets in our solar system.
- Akiva
Awesome.

My Very Excited Mother is going to Serve Us Nine of what now? I mean, really. :( I supposed she could just serve us Ninjas? But how many? Oh, the conundrum.
- Miriella
I never trusted that Mickey Mouse planet, anyway.
- DGentry
Next up for relegation... Santa & the Easter bunny!

This is science, working as intended: As our knowledge of the universe grows, things we had previously taken as fact must be re-evaluated and reclassified. (Examples: plate tectonics, phlogiston.) Bemoaning Pluto's lost status as a planet strikes me as similar to legislating pi to be 3.0 or complaining that the Earth feels less significant if it's not the center of the universe.
