Does this exist? Party camera -- large sensor (flash = ick), wide-angle-ish fixed lens (28mm?), no other frills or features, pocketable.

The Canon S90 was supposed to fit this bill but I found it only okay. The S95 is supposed to be better, but I haven't heard from anyone yet.

Consider the micro 4/3 system? I've heard great things about the Panasonic Lumix 20mm f/1.7 and either the Panasonic GF1 or the Olympus E-P2. It'll fit in a coat pocket with the 20mm.

I've had the S90 and have the S95 and I think they're both pretty good if you're just gonna leave it at 24mm & f/2. Excellent pocketability cause there's nothing on it that sticks out really. Another cam you might want to take a look at is the Ricoh GRD3. It's got a fixed 28mm f/1.9 lens but it's larger than the S90/95 so less pocketable. I've heard good things about the GRD line. Well thought out controls and good image quality.

I was going to say that pocketable and large sensor don't go together but I guess the Sigma dp1x proves me wrong!

I have an S95 and am very happy with it, but I don't use it much indoors. I think the sensor and lens are the same as the S90. As much as I hate to use flash, I've only recently learned about “fill flash” and will have to turn flash on to try it out.
