"I assume you mean me. He didn't have to. I don't think he did ask you not to use it. The issue was the scraper which can be used to make an offline version, and that being distributed. I believe there are good reasons to oppose such action. If you have a problem with debate in general I would point out that it's how progress is made without resorting to force." - Tanath

"I didn't realize standing up for people's rights came off as selfish. The fact that it seems to reduce the chances of "properly" being published is a problem with the industry in my opinion. Promoting their stance bay benefit Wildbow, and I'm all for that, but I don't want to do so at the expense of our rights. We have a right to fair use both legally and ethically. Choosing between supporting creators I like and rights is not a choice I want to make but if I have to I choose our rights. He's proven there's a market and that he can succeed independently to a degree already via donations. I'm not entirely convinced that he'd even make more money getting "properly" published in the long run. Likely sure, but it can be done. Is there a reason he _couldn't_ stay independent and still get movie deals and the like? I think that'd be more ideal." - Tanath

"You may be interested to know that development on the version found in Add-ons Manager was discontinued, but the site links to what they're calling RequestPolicyContinued where development has picked up again. The interface was reworked, and it replaces the old version." - Tanath

"I can appreciate that. I don't suppose you'd be willing to take the opportunity to stay independent? I think you could do it successfully. Thanks for the reply. I'm just glad you know what you're doing rather than acting more blindly than most I think. Thanks for taking the time to spell it out. Makes sense to avoid burning bridges, but you have the opportunity to do better and show them how it can be done. I don't know if you're the right person to do that, but I think you could be. We need more indie success stories like Minecraft." - Tanath

"I tried to address the ethics as well as law, in a limited way. I don't think you're a bad guy and I do want to support you. I promote Worm all the time. You say perpetuating file sharing isn't cool, and I disagree so I guess we're having this conversation. I consider myself a good person too, but what you're doing here at the behest of the publishers & distributers I think is wrong. They're pushing hard to change the law but they're not pushing for the good of society they're pushing for control of the internet and their own pockets. They have no consideration for things like fair use, and it's wrong. We've always been able to access works for free via libraries and sharing with friends, and creators still get paid. The problem is not free accessibility of works it's that they're not even trying to compete. When you say you want to know about things like the scraper so you can try and have it taken down it makes me sad. We need social pressure to _oppose_ such things or we'll lose..." - Tanath

"I read it about a month ago. We're not talking about redistribution here, it's just a script for offline reading. What's done is done. Once it's online it's unreasonable to assume you can undo that." - Tanath

"I'm sorry but I think this falls under fair use. There's nothing wrong with converting media to the format you prefer, and it's unethical to _force_ users to pay for something they are able and willing to do themselves. If you want to sell a converted version for convenience yourself you can do that, but fair use is fair use." - Tanath
