"Well, that objection's just silly. I remember the time one of the iconic images of the Internet was, "on the Internet, no one knows you're a dog." The implication that I took away was that on the Internet, all that matters is your qualifications and how ready you are to provide something somebody else wants. All that goes away when you start thinking of "diversity" as a desirable end goal, in and of itself. Every time I see an article like this, the writer's landing thing that some organization just hasn't hired enough women or "people of color," and because they haven't the opinions carried there by are somehow less – authentic? Meaningful? Useful? They are somehow lesser because of the color or gender of the writer. That's pretty much the definition of sexism and racism where I'm from. I'm increasingly beginning to think that I'm from another world. Maybe Nate Silver and Ezra Klein have assembled teams of people that work together well, that produce articles and other material that..."

"At which point, you have to wonder who thought it would ever be simple? It's not like media in general was ever simple. There was never an example of a media landscape that wasn't complicated. So why when new, disruptive technology is introduced would it be a straight line for replacement and not active subversion, which is really more of what we see?
That said, I have to wonder about the ultimate response to Klein and his intent with Vox. There's a certain air of condescension in the very setup which I don't think will play well with – well, anyone. It is explicitly not "these are things that the writers feel passionate about and are knowledgeable about and want to share things with you," it's "you need to have things explained to you, and we know better than you so we're going to." I don't think I'm the only one that's going to pick up on that. And I don't think I'm the only one that's going to be put off by that."

"And here we find Adam deep in discovery of the Eternal September.
Welcome to UseNet, old chum. Here's your cane and shotgun loaded with rock salt for yelling at kids to get off your lawn.
I've gone through sixteen by now."

"Wait, there are assholes on the _Internet?_ And people were voicing tedium with the idea that a character based on a woman who was an active Suffragette would spout some of that most tedious of feminism that passes as politically aware today?
Say it ain't so!
This isn't misogyny, no matter how trendy it is to claim so this week. It's not a hatred of women. It's not trying to "shut down" women's voices. It's assholes looking for easy amusement and taking a swing at it like any low, slow one over the plate."
