Re: Lifestyle Businesses - http://avc.com/2015...
"here is a simple definition: you re a "non funded business" until you get funded. Many funded companies started with no intention to be funded, But they realized one day they had to. So you either have investors or you don't. Whether they are VCs, Angels, Friends and family. Once you have investors you enter in a logic of capital ROI and management style which is very different from fully owned and controlled. In a way it s the same with art: you can be a kubrick and never rely on hollywood, or start as an "indie" and become a super hit (eg Blair witch project) or just play by hollywood rules. Lifestyle or not is not a debate i believe." - Ouriel Ohayon
Re: Product Idea: Reverse Engineering VC Investment Strategies - http://avc.com/2015...
"that is indeed useful but 2 caveats. the arrival of a new partner with specific background and track record within a fund can change the trajectory of the investment strategy; also the fact a fund has not invested in a specific sector does not mean they won't...they may just wait for the right opportunity (just as you did with Etsy or Twitter) Finally sometimes there is also portfolio saturation around a specific topic/vertical (too many consumers mobile apps,...) and a logic of diversification is required. So the big picture is not helpful in that sense. The only real way to know is to ping the VC and see what the answer is Last comment: i would not just crawl the VC website for portfolio links but also would run a simple analysis on the fund partnership: get their linkedin profile, field of expertise and run a conclusion from there. That would be very complementary" - Ouriel Ohayon
Re: Distraction - http://avc.com/2015...
"Totally resonates. Here is a thing I have done and changed things big time. I turned off notifications off my phone. Small change but huge impact. No need for meditation or whatever" - Ouriel Ohayon
Re: Meerkat Vs Periscope: Tech journalist is a sickly mess | BGR - http://bgr.com/2015...
"your analysis is not accurate enough. For Both apps "growth" was driven by one main factor: Apple featured them as both app of the week. Apple stopped featuring Meerkat (kind of) and the ranks fell. Apple will stop featuring periscope and the same thing will happen. What will be interesting for both will be to observe what happens after and if growth can get back through different channels. Remember it took 2 years to twitter to take off.. Secret situation was totally different: the app lost is mojo not because Apple did not feature them but because the negative value driven by the app cause its own demise That is the context to analyze this" - Ouriel Ohayon
Re: Battery Sharing - http://avc.com/2015...
"I wrote about this exact problem and solutions on my facebook page about a year ago. And some people answered it was possible to do it but required a different set of battery capability that would reduce the native lifetime of one s battery." - Ouriel Ohayon
Re: Some Thoughts On Watches - http://avc.com/2015...
"i think it is impossible to guess because this is truly a new product category and no one to date has cracked it and marketed it right: especially in terms of ecosystems of apps and utilities. maybe Apple is the only one who can do it. we ll know in 12 months" - Ouriel Ohayon
Re: Feature Friday: Undo Send in Gmail - http://avc.com/2015...
"such an important feature. should be default. coming to a mobile email client near you very soon" - Ouriel Ohayon
Re: The Mobile Phone Addiction - http://avc.com/2015...
"Spot on. I am not sure there will ever be a solution. I think it has to do with education more than anything. I believe this is going to be the biggest challenge of the new generation: ie learning to be focused and enjoy time in a smartphone-free world. And wait for watches to arrive....we're cooked (no play on words)" - Ouriel Ohayon
Re: People Plus Packages - http://avc.com/2015...

Re: Demystifying Native Ads - http://relevance.com/...
"You still miss the point. And thank god enough serious people in the industry get it." - Ouriel Ohayon
Re: Demystifying Native Ads - http://relevance.com/...
"no it s not. in particular the way it is laid out. try again." - Ouriel Ohayon
Re: Demystifying Native Ads - http://relevance.com/...
"that s precisely the difference. "Sponsored" is not clear. "Promoted" either. Ad/Advertising is. Btw look no further than how the biggest ad company in the world operates: Google call their ad "ads". It s not just the wording but the clarity of the layout. What ad network are you working for?" - Ouriel Ohayon
Re: Demystifying Native Ads - http://relevance.com/...
"Do I really? You re missing the point. The problem is not how they define it or how you think we define it. But the difference is in the details of implementation of clear disclosure and transparency to the users and publishers." - Ouriel Ohayon
Re: Demystifying Native Ads - http://relevance.com/...
"Sounds like you need a good training about what is native and what is not, dear anonymous commenter." - Ouriel Ohayon
Re: Demystifying Native Ads - http://relevance.com/...
"Not it's not. Pay attention we don't try to use a complex or blurry wording about disclosure. We just say plain "ad". Period And it's placed in first position and not two lines below in clear gray so chances to miss are high What's funny is that you don't see the difference" - Ouriel Ohayon
Re: On the iOS storage lawsuit - http://www.loopinsight.com/2015...
"For me the problem is not about wrong claims. I don t think anyone really knows that 16G or 64G mean in terms of data or what you can put in it in an accurate way. What s really missing on Apple side is a simple notification mechanism that alerts you, just like the battery, when your memory is getting filled at X % and getting close to full. You could then decided how to best use and manage your memory resources to which Apple provide a wide range of options from iCloud extra storage to offloading photos to more... That would fix most of the key use cases i think many consumers have with their phone." - Ouriel Ohayon
Re: Asking Questions vs Positing Answers - http://avc.com/2015...
"good question :) I do have a blog on typepad and medium: i just found out that the level of interaction with users on Facebook is a multiplier of any blog platform. there is also something "casual" i found on posting on Facebook. something that allows me to post 3/4 baked ideas and complete them on the go without the "formalism" of a blog post. overall i stopped blogging actively ever since twitter + facebook have taken off and since time is also limited i guess" - Ouriel Ohayon

Re: How many people really care about Google Services? - http://ben-evans.com/benedic...
"caring is not about how many people install your service. caring is about how many people who installed it and use it regularly. let me take a wild bet: people who install google maps use it a lot more than the average joe who get apple maps installed by default (to which you can add waze). If average joe does not install google apps maybe it s because average joe does not know about it." - Ouriel Ohayon
