"I suppose the main difference is that if it were on the phone, it would have been much more difficult to post online. I would bet that on camera she wouldn't have said anything like that. Email? Who knows!" - Mack D. Male

"Unnecessarily cynical? Perhaps. But I would say that most of the complaints are unnecessarily entitled. I agree that design can mitigate noise, but that doesn't excuse the people who buy there without doing their homework, then complain and expect everyone to bend over backwards to fix their issue." - Mack D. Re: 17 reasons why City Council deserves the 3.8% raise - http://blog.mastermaq.ca/2015...
"I agree that we want them to work smarter, not harder, but that doesn't change the fact that we ask a lot of them. I agree that greater transparency on civic costs would be desirable. The tax free portion isn't a huge issue except it makes the costs harder to understand. On the comment abt pr, I think it's clear that I share quite a bit of criticism as well on this blog." - Mack D. Male
Re: City Council opens the door for Uber to operate legally in Edmonton - http://blog.mastermaq.ca/2015...
"There are slightly different rules yes, but they are all covered under the same Vehicle for Hire bylaw. Someone from the limousine industry in Edmonton spoke at the meeting and suggested that Uber should be reclassified!" - Mack D. Male
Re: City Council opens the door for Uber to operate legally in Edmonton - http://blog.mastermaq.ca/2015...
"They are illegal and they're operating without following the regulations, that's why the City is calling them bandit taxis and is issuing fines to drivers who are caught offering the service. The point of tonight's motion though is to find a way to update the regulations to make them legal, perhaps by the end of 2015." - Mack D. Male

Re: Why isn’t City Council pushing back on the Edmonton Police Service? - http://blog.mastermaq.ca/2014...
"It's unfortunate that more of that information isn't made available in the operating budget documents. If $20 million in efficiencies have actually been found, that's a good news story that should be shared! I was in a meeting with EPS officials a little over a year ago and they were quite happy to share that from 2007 to 2012, the 8 crime indicators that EPS tracks were down 40%, and that's despite call volumes increasing by 5% each year across the service. And with the exception of Delta Zero, the message was that the Downtown Division isn't as unsafe as the headlines would have you believe. Again, as I mentioned in the post, let's make the case for increased funding from other levels of government if the numbers are as you say, with 20% of demand coming from other areas. The odd comment here or there doesn't help to instill confidence, however, and the fact that there's zero mention of it in the budget documents is concerning. Thanks for reading Shami and for sharing some valuable..." - Mack D. Male
