next to "Social outcomes under Vodka" :-) - Adriano
Hehe @ Adriano. "The year 2008 was declared the International Year of the Potato by the United Nations, noting that the potato is a staple food in the diet of the world’s population, and affirming the need to focus world attention on the role that the potato can play in providing food security and eradicating poverty.[1] Food and Agriculture Organization was invited to facilitate its implementation. The corresponding resolution adopted on 25 November 2005 by the Food and Agriculture Organization, which was to facilitate the implementation of the year, affirmed "the need to revive public awareness of the relationship that exists between poverty, food security, malnutrition and the potential contribution of the potato to defeating hunger." This was one of many international observances declared for specific days, months and years. The year 2008 was shared with the International Year of Sanitation. It was hoped that International Year designation will do for the potato what the International Year of Rice (2004) did for that food staple, namely, inspire exhibits, educational programs, films, publications and greater public awareness of multi-national efforts on behalf of our food resources. 2008 was also designated the National Year of the Potato in Peru." - Zu from AOD
Speaking of vodka, I should also cite: "In this way, 'vodka was taken away from the Church', and this led to one of the distinguishing features of Russian historical development." - Zu from AOD
12 Words and Phrases That Came From Comic Strips http://mentalfloss.com/article...
Once upon a time, newspaper comic strips were as influential in molding American pop culture (and the way we spoke) as television and social media are today. Odds are we’ll still be using many of these terms long after we’ve stopped describing people as “sponge-worthy” and dismissing them by saying “talk to the hand.” - etesien

‘Amore sola mi fa remirare, la sol mi fa sollecita’—‘Only love makes me remember, it alone fires me up.’ LISTEN TO THE DEBUT PERFORMANCE OF LEONARDO DA VINCI’S INCREDIBLE ‘VIOLA ORGANISTA’ http://www.youtube.com/watch...
Leonardo also devised and created plans for many strange and wonderful musical instruments, including the viola organista, which is an instrument that combines the sound of the piano and the cello. Five-hundred after years dreaming-up the viola organista, Leonardo’s musical instrument has been painstakingly reproduced by Polish concert pianist, Slawomir Zubrzycki, who spent 5000 hours building the instrument as based on Leonardo’s original plans. - etesien

The Constellations for Each Month of the Year - Atlas of the Heavens, Elijah Burritt, designed to illustrate Burritt's Geography of the heavens. New York : Mason Bros., 1856.
Elijah H. Burritt's "Celestial Atlas" and "Geography of the Heavens" were first published in Hartford, Connecticut in 1833 and were soon sold out. A second edition of the atlas was printed in Hartford in 1835 and it too quickly sold out. The third edition, "Atlas, Designed to Illustrate the Geography of the Heavens," was printed in New York, also in 1835. The photos below are taken from a reprint of that third printing (reprint source: Janus Publications). A total of 16 editions were printed, the last in 1876. http://www.modernconstellations.com/burritt... - etesien

Her şeyle bağlantılıdır.

- etesien
