"Zheng Dexun, a Chinese farmer from Langzhong, had the shock of his life recently when he pulled out a man-shaped knotweed plant from amongst his crops. Stretching out to 62 centimeters, this particular plant consisted of a knobby head joined to a slender body that tapered down. The head itself had protruding bits for the eyes and nose area. As for the body, there were distinguishable arms and legs as well as a bumpy little package. The bemused farmer is not sure if he should count his blessings or be wary of impending bad luck. Zheng said: “I don’t know whether it is good or bad to dig out a Chinese knotweed that looks like a human. I’d better put it back in the earth!” This is not the first time someone has dug out a strangely shaped fleeceflower variety in their garden. In December 2008, a browsing customer stumbled upon a knotweed ‘couple’ in China’s Shandong. This root consisted of two human-shaped bits where one resembled a female with its defined upper torso and the other looked masculine with its dangling member. This particular specimen was nabbed by an enterprising customer for 600 yuan whereby he has set up a viewing spot in his home for eager visitors."

Filed under: iPhone, App Store, iPod touch, First Look, App Review Novelty and social applications are a big hit on the iPhone. A new one from the folks of Taptivate is sure to be a big hit when it is released in the near future. Voices for iPhone is touted as an "audio recorder with a twist" and even a "social voicemail" utility. With Voices, you're given tools to manipulate your own voice in many fun and odd ways. Whether you'd like to transform into Darth Vader or a chipmunk, you're good to go with Voices. Sporting a unique and very pretty user interface, the application boasts a lot of cool extras sure to show you how hard the developers have worked on it. The app has a home screen-like selection window where you can choose the way in which you want your voice manipulated. A stack of your recordings can also be accessed with just a tap. After initially seeing this app when it was in early beta, it has come a long way since then. With numerous bug fixes, a tweaked UI and the...

Windows 7's Aero Snap is a pretty neat feature, allowing for easy side-by-side window sizing of any application. You can get a similar effect in Ubuntu by tweaking your Compiz configuration settings. Getting a half-size, Aero-Snap-like window when dragged to the edge of a window is easier than it might seem—assuming you've got the right commands to enter into the CompizConfig-Settings-Manager app, like the OMG! UBUNTU! blog has. Make a quick installation of Compiz's settings manager, if you haven't already, and enter the commands and variables recommended at the link. Now when you drag a window to the screen edge, you'll get a half-size window to stack up. Two caveats apply to this trick, though. One is that you seem to lose the ability to drag windows horizontally into your next workspace. The other is that, depending on how you set it up, a dual monitor setup might not give properly sized windows. I can live with the first issue, as I only use one workspace, but my TwinView setup...

TechCrunch, among other news outlets, reports that Adobe is cutting 680 employees as part of a restructuring plan. This is roughly 9 percent of the company's workforce. The news comes on the heels of Electronic Arts' decision to layoff 1,500 workers and a reduction of 600 from Adobe back in December. Adobe had purchased Omniture in September and reduced its workforce by 9 percent at that time.
The cost of restructuring for Adobe will total between $65 and $71 million, the TechCrunch article says.
The layoffs come just after Adobe announced that Flash Professional CS5 will be able to turn Flash projects into iPhone apps. The company has also recently released a version of its Photoshop.com Mobile app for the iPhone [iTunes link].

Friendfeed is a dead end. no more development will happen. And people have already begun their migration to other services. Based on this I wouldn't expect FF integration. They do have Facebook support though and since Friendfeed so shamelessly sold out to them, having fb support is in a way like having ff(symbolically).

In Japan, being thin is the law! People there are fighting fat to comply with a government-imposed waistline standard, as well as to ward off dreaded "metabolic syndrome" -- a combination of health risks including stomach flab, high blood pressure and high cholesterol that can lead to cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
