Watching the Corners: On Future-Proofing Your Passion | 43 Folders - http://www.43folders.com/2010...
"But, to the extent that your sanity can bear it, always keep an eye on the corners, the edges, and especially learn to watch for those infinitesimally tiny figures starting to shuffle around near the horizon. Because a lot of the things that seem ridiculously small and inconsequential right now will eventually cast a shadow that people will be chasing for decades. It’s just that we’re never sure which tiny figure that will turn out to be." - Keith Pelczarski
Devastation and Recovery at Mt. St. Helens : Feature Articles - http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/Feature...
"In the three decades since the eruption, Mt. St. Helens has given scientists an unprecedented opportunity to witness the intricate steps through which life reclaims a devastated landscape. The scale of the eruption and the beginning of reclamation in the Mt. St. Helens blast zone are documented in this series of images captured by NASA’s Landsat series of satellites between 1979 and 2009. The older images are false-color (vegetation is red) because earlier Landsats could not “see” blue light." - Keith Pelczarski

Max busted his funny bone jumping off a play structure today -- supracondylar humerus fracture. Nothing that a little closed reduction and percutaneous pinning won't cure, though. He was a brave little dude throughout the injury and operation. The real bummer? He busted it three hours before his birthday party.
Poor Max!! Wish him a speedy recovery! - Georgia
Ouch! Speedy recover to him and lots of Birthday cake. - WoH: Professor MOTHRA
Great time in #AVL. Thanks to @pamasheville, @bryanfreeborn, et al and esp. @tracysigler & family. So much fun & positive energy!

I'm really surprised I haven't seen more "artist's renderings" for these different options. I don't think people really have a good feel for what the different options really are. - Brian Johns
Didn't use my car at all today. Jogged kids to school (6 miles), rode my bike for pick up and errands (15 miles). You're welcome, Earth.
Wait, how did you convince your kids to jog 6 miles to school? - Stephen Mack
I wanted to know the same thing. - Chieze Okoye
Ha ha. Max rode his bike the two miles to his school, and Tater rode in the jog stroller. - Keith Pelczarski
Nice job Keith! I love that your daughter's nickname is Tater... too cute! And yes, I know that you've told me her nickname before, but every time I read it, it makes me smile. - Georgia
Wondering if the guy who just walked by knows that he looks just like Ali G. I'm guessing not.
3-y.o. daughter is disappointed Earth Day doesn't involve decorations. No candy, either. What kind of holiday is this?
Dad is settled in back home after his CABG and I am about to board a flight home. Order is being restored.
Dad has all of his tubes out now, and today he got a pair of pants. Big boy stuff! He might even come home tomorrow.

When I first parsed this, I thought you implying that you got a vasectomy and could wear pants again. Either way, Congratulations! - Brian Johns

FYI, Dad's CABG went AOK. Now it's R&R in the CICU. KTHXBYE.

Why I won't buy an iPad (and think you shouldn't, either) - Boing Boing - http://www.boingboing.net/2010...
"The way you improve your iPad isn't to figure out how it works and making it better. The way you improve the iPad is to buy iApps. Buying an iPad for your kids isn't a means of jump-starting the realization that the world is yours to take apart and reassemble; it's a way of telling your offspring that even changing the batteries is something you have to leave to the professionals." - Keith Pelczarski
Why Toyota Should Go Open Source - BusinessWeek - http://www.businessweek.com/innovat...
"Given that a typical luxury car can have more than 100 million lines of software code running everything from navigation systems to climate control to acceleration and braking systems, this is clearly more than an academic issue. According to a 2008 report from research firm Frost & Sullivan, the number of lines of code in each individual car will likely rise to the 300 million mark over the next few years. If ways to reduce the defect rate of software are not identified, the benefits of Moore's Law will be overwhelmed by the exponential growth of software quality problems." - Keith Pelczarski
