San Diego near the coast Anika. Getting damn sick of these earthquakes!!

Ah, okay. I hope everything is okay, though.

They tell us that since no houses fell apart during the Easter earthquake, which was a 7.2, anything under that and we're good to go. Very comforting....:/

Reporting is often about access, but journalists along the Gulf Coast covering the BP oil spill have had some trouble getting it.

I can understand how the media can be a pain in the ass, and they shouldn't get in the way of the clean up, but this is a public beach isn't it? Plus no one will talk.....very interesting. Think BP has something to hide maybe? ;)

Every summer BBQ deserves a good potato salad. This one is on our agenda for the weekend, how about you? Creole potato salad, by the way, hails from Louisiana where people are never too far from their Tony Chachere's or Zatarain's. The distinguishing feature of creole potato salad is "creole mustard", which has a unique spicy taste with chiles, molasses, and herbs. I was able to find a jar at our local Raley's grocery store here in Sacramento, so I'm guessing that it's not too hard to find in other parts of the country.

I've got everything except the Creole Mustard! Must find some.....I want to make this.

To a native Californian like myself, a "tortilla" is round and flat, and comes in only two styles, flour and corn. So the concept that a tortilla could also be a thick potato omelette, took some getting used to. But that is the difference between a Spanish tortilla and a Mexican tortilla. The Spanish version is made by frying thinly sliced potatoes in olive oil, then layering those slices in a pan (preferably a cast iron frying pan), covering with beaten eggs, and cooking until set. It's perfect for a weeknight meal, and only requires a few ingredients which you likely have in your pantry. It's good warm, room temperature, or cold, and makes for great leftovers.

A captain returned to the cockpit after taking a bathroom break and found the first officer facing away from the instruments and talking to a flight attendant. Unnoticed was the fact that the autopilot had disconnected and the plane was in danger of stalling.

Mmmmm. Mmmmm. Mmmmm. Sausage, peppers, and onions. This is one of those classic Italian American street-food, lunch cart dishes. I used to order them at a hole-in-the-wall lunch counter in Burbank, you know the type of place where the big loud guy behind the counter works fast and furious, takes your order (you better know what you want!) and barks it back to the guys on the line, and within minutes you have a huge bread roll in your hand holding more sausage, peppers, and onions than you think you can possibly eat. But eat you do, because they are so so good. And then you have a food coma for the rest of the afternoon, and you eat steamed broccoli for dinner because after that lunch, you just don't need much for dinner. Yum.

Sausage and Peppers....one of my most favorite Italian dishes!
