Question Time: How often do you defrag your primary computer?
I haven't done a defrag since the late 90s. More seriously, usually only a few times per year. - Sally - Skyrimmin' It
i read that some people do it every other day. others, like you Sally, a few times a year. i guess it all depends on how fraggy one gets.... - Morgan
I find that my machine doesn't really suffer much performance issues. I'm not a heavy system user at home and there's probably some sort of scheduled process at work that takes care of my office computer so I don't have to do it. It is one of my first troubleshooting steps if I'm having performance problems. - Sally - Skyrimmin' It
Even as someone who knows better, I rarely ever think about running defrag unless I'm trying to partition the drive - Rahsheen
Funny. I just asked this question yesterday. http://friendfeed.com/rochell... - Rochelle
I clean the register so frequently that when I go to defrag.....my system tells me I don't need to at this time..? - JB
Once a week. - Steven Perez
Not very often, particularly since it's using an encrypted hard drive so wouldn't do much anyhow. - Scoble, Alex Scoble
Somehow my Win 7 box has this task scheduled regularly... Maybe that's a default setting, I dunno. - Andrew C (see frenf.it)
Not once in 3 years. - OCoG of FF, Jimminy
I don't think I've defragged my hard drive in at least a few years. I guess I got out of the habit when I used Linux as my primary OS (which doesn't need to be defragged). No idea if my drive is fragmented at this point or not, but I'm not suffering any major performance issues - COMPLICATED MR. NOODLE
I stand corrected. Just opened the disk defragmenter and found out that it's scheduled to run every week. However, the last time it ran (last night) all of my partitions were 0% fragmented - COMPLICATED MR. NOODLE
