The instigating post totally got yanked :D

I just realized one of the things that annoy me the most about contemporary-era post-global-financial-crisis gentrifiers: this bizarre faith that somehow rampant unfettered capitalism will magically lead to environmental sustainability and spaces that are friendly to families and pets.

The instigating post was about how the poster was glad that this affordable supermarket that had been in ER for 20 years or so that she thought was "ghetto" was closing down and being replaced by a Sprouts. Unsurprisingly, low-level class warfare erupted :D

Quote from a comment to a follow up post re: a paper discussing gentrification: "What are the 'problems' [of gentrification]? I think the point of this study is that gentrification is not a bad thing. It's actually a good thing. Therefore - not a problem." ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜

"bizarre faith that somehow rampant unfettered capitalism will magically lead to environmental sustainability" <-- so many green-minded people (broadly speaking) think that way

Could be my neighbor. I was telling Adrian last night how the new people only shop at Whole Foods and were shocked we shop at Food4Less down the street. Like, I'm going to take 30 min. to drive to Pasadena for overpriced food. They want a Sprouts or Whole Foods here. I'm like, "Well, move to an area with one, then." I don't get these people who move into lower-income areas, then complain about perceived ghettoness when they don't even try to learn about the area.
