Internal Backlash After Cleveland.com's Coverage of Tamir Rice's Father's Criminal Record http://m.clevescene.com/scene-a...
Some people who refuse to see a black 12 year old as an actual child, or even fully human, find it necessary go on at length about violent households, to dig for ANYthing to blame that child and their people for that child being killed. Nowhere in that video did I see the cop stop and ask Tamir Rice about his family history. He didn't ask if his dad was violent or if his mom had been arrested or if they bought him guns instead of books for his birthday. So FOH with that but-he-came-from-a-violent-household BULLshit. That is irrelevant when the boy is shot ONE POINT FIVE SECONDS after the cop pulls up. This tragedy also drives home another ugly truth: black children are constantly perceived, outside their families/communities, as not really children, as more sexual or dangerous than white kids their age. This allows racists to blame those children for whatever horrible things might happen to them, to punish those children as if they're adults, to see a 20 year old man instead of a 12 year old boy. I want to see the officer who killed Tamir Rice charged and jailed for murder. - Starmama
