Wireless Internet - No phone line at home. No cable line. Looking at the wireless options out there. Anyone have positive or negative advice/suggestions on this? For reference, I'm in the Los Angeles, CA area. Help me FFobi FFreindobi, you're my only hope!
MiFi on Sprint or Verizon. Sprint Overdrive but there's no 4G coverage in LA yet. I'd just grab a cheap DSL line though. - Rodfather
The negatives are that they are relatively slow compared to DSL/Cable. There's a 5GB cap so if you go over, you'll get additional charges. Advantage is that it's portable. It might be doable if that's your only option. If you don't have coverage, then WildBlue satellite is your only option. The disadvantage of satellite is there's quite a bit of latency. - Rodfather
Yeah, the overage charges are frightening, especially when I think about how quickly 5GB would get used up. Thanks for your ideas! - Morgan
If cell coverage is decent but you need to share the connection to the entire place, a USB stick paired with a Cradlepoint router might be better since on some of them, you can hook up an external antenna. http://www.evdoinfo.com/compone... - Rodfather
Actually, you can treat the MiFi as a USB modem anyway so the USB stick isn't necessary. - Rodfather
I was using Clearwire in Waikiki and could take the box islandwide ... Now I just tether my iPhone to my laptop or desktop and get Internet via 3G .. used it in Long Beach and LAX (as various other airports) with no problems .. not superfast but free since iPhone data use is unlimited on plan .. So now I pay only a phone bill and get Internet access on my laptop wherever I am :) - agirlnamedxine
