For me it wasn't about speed, it was that it was completely unstable. The iPad would spontaneously reboot every 5-10 minutes. I finally fixed it by doing a complete restore. Works finally and it's not horribly slow, but it's not 100% smooth either. - Kevin (aka ThreadKilla)
