Pokemon's a pretty popular title although I've never played it either. I remember when X/Y came out almost everyone I ran into through Spotpass was playing it.

I'm giving it a shot today, until I can get to a bank so I can get Animal Crossing. Then next week I take a trip to Gamestop and/or cd/game exchange to get some stuff.

Yup. Apparently they started taking them in around January of last year, then finally started selling them this past summer. I noticed the "used games" bin in one of our local Walmarts for the first time last month.
