It's even worse than I thought. The logo is the big happy target I use to get back to my Inbox. I had to revert to the even older design, though that's obviously not a long-term solution. - Dan Hsiao

Unfortunately we're in the minority. I believe that the grand mass of users aren't aware that they can click the logo on most sites. - Dan Hsiao
