"Psychological folk art," has to be my favorite quote from "Going Clear" so far.
Finishing this up last night, I can see both why people find it very compelling, and share some of the frustrations I've seen in a few other reviews. It does a good job mucking through the various reasons why people view Scientology as so terrible; you get a variety of stories from people who were involved at various levels, especially close to the top.

On the other hand, it didn't feel like a good history of Scientology/Dienetics, and the way they interspersed the interviews made the chronology strange. It could be deliberate - I'm sure part of the point is to leave people asking a lot of uncomfortable questions.

I really enjoyed the book, but I'd recommend not reading it before going to sleep. I had some disturbing dreams. :-\
