"no plant foods serve as a reliable source for B12. It’s only found predictably in animal foods – meat, eggs, and dairy. Does this mean that we weren’t designed to be vegetarians, and that plant-based diets are inferior? In order to answer these questions, we need to look at the ultimate source for all vitamin B12, which is bacteria."

One of my co-workers who went vegan in the last couple of years did have some trouble, but it was easily sorted out. My mom (not vegan) has had trouble, but that's crohn's disease related.

i've been vegan for over a decade (OMG that sounds like an eternity) and even did chemo vegan. i think we're all different. just eat a varied diet regardless.

Yeah, I think the article lays it out pretty well - it might be something that people eating a wholly vegetable or vegan diet might be more likely to have happen, but everyone's system is different and it feels weird to suggest a supplement before you suspect you have a problem.

Long ago I lost the specialized section of small bowel which absorbs B-12 into my body to Crohns and a surgeons knife. A monthly injection of B-12 suffices. It seems a small thing....
